The University of Valparaíso (UV) was established in 1981, as a state-funded public institution, following the economic reforms to create public regional universities, undertaken under the Chilean military rule which lasted until 1990. The majority of its buildings are situated near the national congress building in the centre of Valparaíso, however some buildings, such as the faculty of humanities and the faculty of economics, are based in the nearby Viña del Mar. It also has a selection of other campuses in the Quinta region and in Santiago, 100km from Valparaíso. UV’s teaching, research and outreach programmes are undertaken through its 10 faculties, 41 undergraduate programmes, 38 graduate programmes, 37 health and dentistry specialisations and 19 research centres. It focuses on business, however there is also a Latin American regional and cultural department for history, economics and sociology courses. Its other strengths include psychology, philosophy and marine biology. Valparaíso is known as Chile’s college town and the higher education institutions contribute to a large proportion of its economy. There are three other universities besides UV but these are all more campus-based than UV. As the main port and historical centre of Chile, Valparaíso is bustling but remains relaxed, offering beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and plenty of activities, especially for Pablo Neruda fans (the Chilean poet lived and worked in Valparaíso). Viña del Mar is a short bus ride away and although it is known as Chile’s “garden city,” it is famous for its stunning beaches.

Suitably qualified applicants may be considered for direct tenure. The Faculty of Law is the longest-established law school in Hong Kong. It plays a leading role in legal education in Hong Kong and Asia through its various undergraduate, research, postgraduate, and taught postgraduate programmes covering a wide range of legal subject areas. It is the largest and oldest legal research and law teaching institution in Hong Kong, currently consisting of over 80 teaching members and over 2,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our research mainly focuses on Burden of Disease estimation in Taiwan, as well as the long-term health impacts of lifestyle and environmental exposures. Using disease burden metrics as an integrated analytical framework, we apply comparative risk assessment, disease modeling, machine learning, and survival extrapolation methods to systematically quantify the long-term impacts of diverse health risks on population health and societal burden. Our goal is to strengthen the evidence base for health policy planning and evaluation. In recent years, the laboratory has led multiple externally funded research projects supported by national funding agencies, including the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA), and the Health Promotion Administration (HPA). Key Responsibilities Conduct research projects funded by the NSTC and assist with additional assigned academic and administrative tasks. The laboratory maintains long-standing collaborations with the Taiwan Burden of Disease Center, the Institute of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at National Taiwan University (NTU), and the Institute of Statistical Science at Academia Sinica. The successful candidate will have opportunities to engage in cross-institutional research projects and participate in interdisciplinary academic discussions with collaborating scholars.   Working Hours Monday to Friday, standard 9-hour shift (including a 1-hour lunch break). Qualifications Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related medical/pharmaceutical fields. Proficiency in statistical software such as R, SAS, STATA, or Python. Experience analyzing large-scale databases (e.g., NHIRD, Biobank) is highly preferred. Strong interest and commitment to medical and public health research.
