The University of Toledo (UT) is a public metropolitan research university renowned for its beautiful, scenic campuses.

Located in the city of Toledo, Ohio, UT is a student-centred institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Established in 1872, the university became a member of the state university system in 1967. In the summer of 2006, it merged with the Medical University of Ohio to create the third-largest public university operating budget in the state.

Today, UT is one of 14 state universities in Ohio and its main mission is to ‘improve the human condition’.

It offers more than 300 undergraduate, graduate and professional programmes, and counts law, engineering, business and occupational therapy among its nationally ranked programmes.

Day and evening classes, as well as online programmes, are also available for students at associate, bachelor's, graduate and doctoral levels.

The main UT campus comprises nine modern residence halls, a student recreation centre, a gothic bell tower, cutting edge classrooms, a football stadium and basketball and athletics complex.

Sporting the colours midnight blue and gold, university sports teams are known as The Rockets, a shortened version of ‘Skyrockets’, a name dating back to the 1920s.

In 1961 the university procured a one-ton rocket from the US Army, which became its symbol of pride. The rocket sits at the northeast corner of the Glass Bowl football stadium, pointed towards neighbouring Bowling Green State University. It is said that if the rocket were to be lit, it would land on the 50-yard line of the Falcons' Doyt Perry football stadium.

Toledo itself is an industrial and entrepreneurial city, known for its car assembly plants and glass manufacturing (hence its nickname ‘The Glass City’).

The campuses at UT offer 200 student organisations, as well as art exhibitions, athletic games, theatre performances and talks by public figures such as the radio host Robert F Kennedy Jr. and the author Toni Morrison.

Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  Job Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.• Undertake these responsibilities in the project: i. Lead and support high quality publications to disseminate the applied research outcomes. ii. Plan, organize and carry out experiments and trials in the food pilot plant to achieve the objectives iii. Engage and communicate with collaborators for progress meetings and report generation to meet the grantor's requirements. The candidate is to liaise and communicate with any internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met and to perform any other adhoc duties assigned by Supervisor.  Job requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of protein chemistry, analytical chemistry for amino acid profiling, polyphenol profile analysis, SDS-PAGE, and protein hydrolysis. Have a degree in Food Science and Technology, or Analytical Chemistry. Possessing a Master's or PhD degree will be advantageous Experience and Knowledge of operating HPLC, MALDI-TOF and Q-TOF Mass spectrometry for protein sequencing, carbohydrate/Sugar analysis, and polyphenol identification. Previous experience as lab-in-charge or equipment-in-charge will be advantageous. Able to communicate with industrial collaborators to share key findings, seek supports, or conducting commercial trials. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety, and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.

The primary responsibility of this role is to support and contribute to an industry innovation research project. The Research Engineer will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and the research team to develop deep learning-based computer vision algorithms and software for object detection, classification, and segmentation. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project together with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely achievement of project deliverables. Undertake the following specific responsibilities in the project: i. Develop, train, and optimise deep learning models for object detection, classification, and segmentation using real-world datasets. ii. Design and implement software modules to integrate the models into a working system prototype. iii. Perform data annotation. iv. Conduct experiments, analyse results, and iterate models for improved accuracy and efficiency. v. Prepare project documentation, technical reports, and academic publications. vi. Collaborate with industry partners and contribute to technology transfer efforts. Job Requirements Possess strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in: Deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) Deep learning models (e.g., YOLO, U-Net, EfficientNet, ResNet, FPN, Fast R-CNN) Computer vision techniques and algorithms Python and relevant libraries (e.g., PyQt, OpenCV, NumPy, scikit-learn), particularly for developing Windows desktop application software incorporating deep learning models Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s or PhD degree in relevant areas will be advantageous.
