The go-ahead for a university to be built in Texas was first given in 1839, but a series of set-backs meant the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) was not established until almost a half century later. It was 1883 when UT Austin first opened its doors, with one building, eight professors and 221 students.

Today, UT Austin is a world-renowned higher education, research-intensive institution, serving more than 51,000 students annually with a teaching faculty of around 3,000.

It comprises 18 top-ranked colleges and schools, 17 libraries, seven museums and one 307-foot tower – the most iconic building on campus. 

Possessing a creative and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as a strong community focus, the university states its core purpose as being "to transform lives for the benefit of society".

UT Austin has an alumni numbering close to half a million individuals. Among them are the award-winning actors Matthew McConaughey and Marcia Gay Harden, film director Robert Rodriguez, and journalists Bill Moyers and Walter Cronkite.

With Austin being the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’, students can take advantage of a multitude of arts and cultural opportunities on campus and in the wider locale. More than 200 music venues exist in the city, as well as a thriving film scene and year-round sunshine.

Several global tech companies (Apple, Samsung and IBM among them) have major operations in the area and Austin is, according to Forbes magazine, one of the country’s best cities for tech startups. 

The university is also home to one of the largest college stadiums in the US. Its football teams, known as the Longhorns, are represented by a mascot called Bevo, a Longhorn steer that is said to embody the pride and tradition of Texas football.

Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs Job Requirements SNB-valid Full Practicing Certificate (Registered Nurse). A degree in Nursing from a recognised University. Possessing a Master’s degree, PhD degree and relevant certifications will be an added advantage. Have at least 10 years of clinical nursing experience in healthcare settings. Extensive experience and knowledge of nursing skills and industry practices to bring industry perspectives to SIT. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Experience in research projects and publications will be an added advantage. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Experience in simulation education will be an added advantage. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possessing industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage (e.g., simulation training) Possession of a good network of relationships with industry partners in hospitals, community, and ILTC sectors will be an added advantage.

Surrey Space Centre (SSC) is a leading force in space engineering research and education. We are looking to recruit a Space Mission Ground Station Engineer to work with the SSC Director and the Centre’s academics to complete a comprehensive upgrade to SSC’s satellite ground-station facility (hardware and software) taking it to state-of-the-art capability. In addition to SSC’s missions, which include the next generation of CubeSats and lunar projects, we also provide mission support for other parts of the University and third parties. This role will be a great opportunity for the right person to work with SSC’s engineers and academics to deliver a leading-edge ground support facility. We are looking for someone who already has a good understanding of the principles of satellite telemetry, telecommand and tracking who is able to make a significant engineering contribution to upgrading the SSC Ground Station’s hardware and software. HKU has partnered with International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and The University of Cambridge to establish the HKJCGHI, funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. IVI is a non-profit international organization dedicated to vaccines and vaccination for global health. The Science Unit of IVI coordinates the Vaccine Process Development workstream and contributes to others workstreams of the HKJCGHI, including capacity building. These areas of work are in sync with HKJCGHI activities of the Science Unit in Seoul. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field, with at least 10 years of relevant experience in developing and managing process development laboratories or related manufacturing operations, particularly for vaccines targeting infectious diseases. Applicants should demonstrate good knowledge and relevant research experience in field of vaccine development/production of biomolecules using cell-culture platforms (e.g. viral vaccines), and possibly bacterial- and mRNA-based vaccines including their biology, design of molecules, immunology, microbiology and molecular biology; and knowledge in developing assays for product characterization. Preference will be given to those with experience in cultivation and carrying out purification of enveloped and non-enveloped viruses in vaccine development industry, especially in GLP or GMP facility. Experience in handling quantitative and/or qualitative assays for vaccine development research would be distinct advantages. They should have excellent written and spoken English skills along with good communication skills, a keen sense of responsibility, good organizational skills, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team. Preference will be given to candidates with prior work experience in vaccine/biopharmaceutical industry, or low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings. The appointees will contribute to research activities on infectious diseases and vaccines under the HKJCGHI. Key responsibilities include developing and managing the process development laboratory at HKJCGHI, including GLP compliant lab areas, and the research projects at GHI; leading, supporting and co-ordinating the process development of vaccine candidates; supervising technology transfer of vaccine candidates developed at GHI-IVI to vaccine manufacturers; and managing staff and sub-departments in the Vaccine Process Development department at HKJCGHI. We have significant national and international collaborations, and our research has growing impact into all areas of medicine particularly through expertise in trials and software development. About the role: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a pioneering project at the intersection of speech analytics, mHealth, and precision psychiatry. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an internationally unique study that integrates speech analysis with qualitative and quantitative methodologies at scale, aiming to transform our understanding of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and advance patient-centred mental health care. The postholder will play a central role in collecting and analysing large-scale speech and wearable data from participants in the GLAD Study cohort (https://gladstudy.org.uk/). Using large language models (LLMs) and acoustic analytics, they will uncover patterns in content, lexical choice, prosody, and acoustic features. These speech-derived measures will be integrated with insights derived from wearable data, structured assessments, medical records, and multi-omics datasets to enable innovative genetic and biomarker association studies, supporting the development of stratified and personalized approaches to mental health treatment. In addition to conducting cutting-edge analyses, the postholder will prepare research findings for dissemination in high-impact, REF-returnable journals and actively engage with Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI-E) efforts to ensure authentic, patient-centred interpretations of the data. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  Job Details This Research Fellow will contribute to the UrEco 2030+ project: “Optimizing Urban Ecosystem Services Model for Urban Climate and Biodiversity in Singapore towards 2030 and Beyond.” This position requires experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related fields, with added expertise in ecosystem services assessment, ecological engineering, social sciences, policy making, environmental science, and/or urban environmental issues at the policy–academic interface. This position is ideal for an early- or mid-career researcher with experience in GIS or remote sensing who seeks to apply and expand their expertise in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research environment. The successful candidate will work with leading researchers and contribute to cutting-edge research and policy dialogues at the intersection of blue–green infrastructure, tropical urban ecosystem services, and urban resilience (covering themes such as urban flooding, thermal cooling, recreation, and biodiversity). The work includes Local Climate Zone (LCZ) classification and collaboration with Japanese university partners for integrated macro- to micro-scale analysis. As part of understanding the ecosystem services that are involved in Singapore, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform some field-based data collection during the duration of the project. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.  Identify, simulate, and analyse ecosystem service models using GIS, remote sensing, and field data. Manage, process, and analyse ecological and socio-economic datasets to develop and calibrate high-accuracy ecosystem service models. Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings into conceptual frameworks and research designs. Support cross–work package integration, particularly in developing tools for blue–green infrastructure policy and decision-making. Perform quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and visualization. Draft and edit research reports, policy briefs, and academic manuscripts. Contribute to project management, workshop organization, and stakeholder or policy dialogues. Be involved in regular field work data collection and to perform environmental and biodiversity surveys (fish, birds and insects) as part of a research team.  To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Job Requirements PhD in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Earth Science, or related disciplines. Strong working knowledge of GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data analysis techniques. Training or demonstrated experience in remote sensing, spatial data collection, and thematic mapping. Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., R, MATLAB, SPSS, Primer, Python).
