The Department of Computer Science is now looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Geometric Algorithms. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our computational geometry team through the grant entitled "Algorithms in hyperbolic geometry" funded by the Research Council of Finland. Computational geometry is the theoretical basis for all types of geometric processing of data, and it is an important and vibrant area of Theoretical Computer Science (TCS). The research will be focused on algorithms and computational complexity in Euclidean and especially non-Euclidean (e.g. hyperbolic) settings. Your role and goals Your primary goal in this position will be to do excellent research on the frontiers of geometric algorithms, both in collaboration with the team and in your existing professional network. We aim to continue publishing in the top international venues in theoretical computer science and computational geometry. In addition to research work, persons hired are expected to participate in teaching following the standard practices at the department. Your network and team You will be working closely with the Computational Geometry Group, which currently has 5 members: two PhD students, 2 postdocs, and the PI (Sándor Kisfaludi-Bak). Aalto University and the Helsinki region have a strong presence in theoretical computer science, and collaboration outside the group (as well as international collaboration) is highly encouraged. Your experience and background Requirements for postdoc applicants Ph.D. in theoretical computer science, mathematics, or a closely related area Research-level experience with the design and analysis of combinatorial algorithms Deep interest or familiarity with computational geometry / geometric algorithms Interest in or familiarity with at least some of the following: discrete mathematics and graph theory, non-Euclidean geometry, computational complexity theory, computational topology Experience with hyperbolic geometry is not required. What we offer The starting salary for the position is 4229,48 EUR per month. In addition to the salary, the contract includes occupational health benefits, and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. The annual total workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1 612 hours. The position is located at the Aalto University Otaniemi campus. There is generous travel support for conferences and research visits. We often travel to various conferences and workshops, and we also have international visitors at regular intervals. Working closely with the Centre Director, Prof Mandy Nikpour, Centre Manager, Stephanie Beshara, and senior academic leaders, including Dr Marina Pinheiro, you will help embed health economic thinking across musculoskeletal research by providing operational, technical, and project support to researchers seeking to incorporate economic evaluation into their work. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing centre of research excellence, supporting the coordination of Hub services, connecting researchers with specialist expertise across the University and external partners, and helping deliver practical guidance on health economic approaches. You will also contribute to seminars, workshops, shared resources, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen health economics capability across SydneyMSK. Working under general direction, you will apply your technical expertise, sound judgement, and collaborative approach to deliver high-quality outcomes while contributing to a multidisciplinary and inclusive research environment. Your key responsibilities will be to: Support the establishment and day-to-day delivery of the Health Economics Support Hub, working closely with senior academic leaders to embed high-quality health economics support across musculoskeletal research. Provide practical guidance to researchers on health economic considerations, including study design, data collection approaches, and basic economic analysis within scope of practice. Facilitate connections between researchers and relevant health economics expertise across the University of Sydney and external partner organisations to strengthen research capability and collaboration. Coordinate and deliver capacity-building initiatives, including seminars, workshops, and resource development to enhance understanding and application of health economics principles. Contribute to the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of shared tools, resources, and reporting processes that support economic evaluation and service delivery. Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders while contributing to collaborative research activities, outputs, and an inclusive team culture. About you Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in a relevant field, ideally in MSK or public health, with an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. Demonstrated experience in health economics, health services research, biostatistics, or a related discipline, with knowledge of health economics methodologies such as economic evaluation, economic modelling, discrete choice experiments, and quality of life research. Demonstrated track record of grant applications, peer reviewed publications and/or policy-relevant report in health economics, or a related area Experience with data linkage projects to evaluate healthcare resource use and costs Strong project coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, monitor budgets and expenditure, maintain accurate records, and deliver outcomes with a high level of organisation and attention to detail. Proven experience supporting research or health-related projects and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across academic, healthcare, or partner organisations. Excellent written, verbal, and numerical skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, alongside strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. The Role and the Department This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of the University's Strategic Reporting and Business Intelligence capabilities . You will be responsible for the Institutional Business Intelligence programme of work - leading the delivery of the key strategic analytical outputs related to the University's strategic performance and planning imperatives. Central to this will be the ongoing development of integrated performance dashboards and continued work on the development of the University's Management Information Hub. Your work will consider further development of the data lake for key data sources across different areas, as well as delivery of strategic reporting relating to those, expanding our core strategic PowerBI dashboard provision. The postholder will have a significant role in providing insights and evidence for assessing performance and meaningful planning, including key performance indicators and competitive positioning. The postholder will also have a lead role in taking forward the University's Data Strategy, liaising with senior leaders and stakeholders in a range of areas to ensure agility and progress with implementation. You will be responsible for the BI section in the Strategy, Planning & Insight Office, leading the team to deliver significant change and improvement in our strategic reporting and analytics, data lake resources, data dashboard reporting, data governance, data quality, data literacy and culture.
