About us  The Department of Defence Studies is part of the School of Security Studies within the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy at King’s College London. Our campus is outside London, located within the Defence Academy of the UK, Shrivenham, Wiltshire About the role  The Department of Defence Studies seeks to recruit two Lecturers in Defence Studies Education on the King’s Academic Education Pathway to contribute to the Department’s teaching and research capacity in defence studies. Both are Fixed Term Contracts, one for one year and one for two years.  We welcome applications from a broad range of expertise within the field of Security Studies. Any specific research focus may be considered, but preference will be given to candidates with subject matter expertise in the following areas: professional military and security education; disruptive technology and AI; Russian strategy and doctrine; military operations and wargaming; military history; nuclear strategy; applied military ethics.  The successful applicants will be based in the Defence Studies Department at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham and will undertake high-quality scholarship and support a range of professional military and security education courses at the postgraduate level. Successful candidates will teach and supervise students who are serving officers and civil servants in the UK and allied armed forces and partners. There are also opportunities to contribute to the School of Security Studies highly successful open online programmes, International Affairs and Global Security. Successful candidates will support the planning, organisation and delivery of education in the Defence Studies Department, and, with departmental mentorship, assume leadership and administrative responsibilities commensurate with the grade of appointment.  Beyond teaching and administrative duties, the successful candidate, upon completion of their probation, will be expected to supervise PhD student and will also play a role in the institutional and intellectual life of the Department and undertake Departmental, School, Faculty and University administrative duties as required.  Defence Studies is part of the School of Security Studies and the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. Undertake high-quality, impactful scholarship within the field of Defence Studies, broadly defined, publish the findings in highly-rated internationally recognised journals, and participate in major internationally recognised academic networks. Participate fully in assessment and examination processes as appropriate using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning and student success. Engage in professional development as appropriate. Attend and participate in appropriate research seminars/conferences within subject related areas. About You To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:  Essential criteria PhD awarded on a relevant topic within Defence Studies, Strategic Studies, Security Studies, Politics, History, International Relations or other, related discipline.  Ability to deliver innovative and effective teaching to postgraduate students across the field of Defence and Security studies.  An emerging track record of scholarship and publications in relevant peer reviewed journals.  Excellent oral and written communications and administrative skills. Well organised and self-motivated, able to work independently. Willingness to collaborate with colleagues, including military colleagues. Desire to promote the subject at all levels. Commitment to equality, diversion and inclusion. Desirable criteria Appropriate teaching qualification or equivalent. Ability to be innovative in curriculum design. The clinical psychology programme team is looking to employ a full time Research Assistant from March 2026 to September 2027 to support the development of our work within the Homeless sector. This post is crucial to the programme being able to build the evidence of the impact of providing training placements for clinical psychologists within the sector.  Until very recently there was limited training opportunities to work in this sector owing to the barriers of supervision and placement expectations. Over the last two year we have piloted a new approach which NHSE have supported. They have provided further financial commitment for to enable us to extend the project and explore how best to evaluate the direct and indirect benefits of the project. This post would particularly suit those with an aspiration to become a clinical psychologist and will provide an opportunity to work with a team of applied psychologists, homeless sector partners as well as trainees who respect and value one another, are advocates for lived experience, lifelong learning, and who embrace change. About you Applicants will typically need to have a master’s degree in psychology or a relevant field and will be confident in the use of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies as well as how to undertake evaluations. They will have self-assurance in their written and oral communication skills so that they are able to engage in sensitive topics of conversations. The profession of clinical psychology currently attracts fewer individuals from minority groups into training. These posts will play a central role in helping us to understand how the profession can help address psychological and physical health inequalities in this sector, so we are seeking someone who wishes to contribute to this and be part of a cultural change.
