Role & Responsibilities: This is a University-wide role responsible for overseeing the testing, quality review and approval processes across multiple projects for new technical developments and major system enhancements. You will work closely with assigned project managers, organisational stakeholders, business analysts, subject matter experts, testers, developers, tech leads, end users, support teams and third parties to manage testing and quality processes during project delivery. The role involves quality and test advocacy, resource planning & management, and resolution of issues that impede the testing effort. Responsibilities include: Play a lead role in the development, implementation and review of the IT Service’s Testing and Quality Assurance Framework and approach. Ensure that the appropriate level of QA has been adopted across the University’s IT and Digital portfolio. Work closely with IT colleagues and a diverse range of organisational stakeholders, along with software suppliers and third parties, to evaluate and test applications that are being implemented, ensuring that extensive end-to-end testing has been applied, and potential defects have been fixed. Identify current and future testing requirements with key stakeholders; working with teams across the organisation who are responsible for projects and key business applications. Oversee the development of test plans for the roll out of new software developments. This includes liaison with Test Analysts, Programme and Project Managers, Subject Matter Experts and system users to agree and schedule appropriate resource for test activities. The School of Veterinary Medicine currently holds over £7m in external research support for animal and human microbiome projects. A vibrant and collaborative community of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students are currently working on microbiome projects ranging from in vitro studies of antimicrobial resistance to helminth and parasiticide interactions with the microbiome to early-life microbiome of foals. In-house technologies supported by the University include both Illumina and nanopore sequencing platforms, Luminex-read multiplex immunoassay of cytokines, Biolog metabolic fingerprinting and aerobic/anaerobic culturomics. Data processing and analysis is supported by the University’s Bioinformatics Core Facility. Examples of current projects are available at Horse Microbiome Research Group and Anthelmintic Resistance in Southeast Asia (AHR-SEA) and La Ragione Research Group. We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Microbiome Science to further grow and sustain research in this field at the University of Surrey. About the role Within the School of Veterinary Medicine, you will join the Section of Infection and Immunity within the Discipline of Comparative Biomedical Sciences. In the role you will: Establish and lead a sustainable research group generating high quality publications and demonstrable impact Secure significant research income to support the work of your research group Mentor postgraduate research students and postdoctoral fellows Initiate cross-disciplinary research collaborations allowing novel, multi-disciplinary insights into animal and human health and disease Make high quality, research-led contributions to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the School, including on the RCVS-accredited BVMSci veterinary degree course.
