The University of Oum El Bouaghi has a history dating back to 1983 when it was established as a Teacher Training School. It subsequently became a National Institute of Higher Mechanics and, in 1997, a university centre. In 2009, the centre gained full university status as the University of Oum El Bouaghi.
Situated in Oum El Bouaghi, a town in the high plains of the Tell Atlas Mountains in northeastern Algeria, the university serves as the capital of the Oum El Bouaghi Province, divided into 12 districts and 29 communes.
The university comprises seven faculties and three institutes, offering a diverse range of degree programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
International cooperation is a key aspect of the university's activities, with partnerships established with higher education institutions worldwide and participation in global networks.
