Exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Animal Physiology to join the Faculty of Science Located on the Camperdown or Camden Campus at the University of Sydney in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences Full time continuing position offering a base salary, Level B ($127,436 - $151,328) or Level C ($156,103 - $179,998) p.a + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) at The University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Animal Physiology to be based at the Camperdown or Camden Campus. Reporting to Professor Grant Hose, Head of School, you will play a key role in delivering and coordinating undergraduate teaching in animal physiology and related disciplines, contributing to high-quality, student-focused education and research. The University of Sydney has an illustrious 114-year history and significant disciplinary strength in animal and veterinary science including animal reproduction and genetic, animal behaviour and welfare, animal nutrition, molecular biology and biochemistry, animal agriculture and husbandry, animal physiology and pathology and applied animal microbiology and parasitology; augmented by outstanding plant, soil and environmental science. There are a number world-class animal and veterinary science units closely associated with the School including: The Veterinary Pathology and Diagnostic Services, Poultry Research Foundation and Dairy Research Foundation. On the Camden campus there are a variety of farms (poultry, dairy, sheep, pigs) that have been established for over 70 years providing world class opportunities to study and teach production animal physiology. The School is also associated with the various companion, exotic and production animal veterinary hospitals and animal care services offered at Camperdown and Camden to the local community, providing you with exciting opportunities to study and teach animal physiology in a broad range of animal species. The successful applicant will bring expertise in animal physiology including cell and development biology, endocrinology, molecular physiology, immunology, neurophysiology, musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory physiology, ruminant and monogastric digestive physiology and urogenital physiology with a broad knowledge of a variety of animal species enabling effective teaching in comparative physiology. The successful applicant will have a track record of excellence in research publications and successful applications for research funding, demonstrating clear potential to become a leader in their field. It is expected that the candidate's research background and future program will focus on the physiological management and monitoring of animals in manmade and natural settings to optimize animal productivity, health, welfare and wellbeing. They will have a track record of success in teaching, research and publication commensurate with an early/mid-career scientist on a rising trajectory. The successful applicant will have research interests that complement and/or enrich the existing strengths and expertise in the School in the general area of animal and veterinary bioscience. They should have a track-record of successful collaboration nationally and internationally and articulate a vision for innovative collaborations within SOLES, across the University of Sydney and beyond. SOLES has a program of undergraduate teaching in agriculture, veterinary biology and animal and veterinary bioscience and works closely with the Sydney School of Veterinary Science. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to teaching across the Camperdown and Camden campuses, in addition to being actively involved in postgraduate training. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in management and administration and should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the promotion of teaching and learning. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for an outstanding senior academic who has: Lecturer (Level B) who has or can demonstrate the capacity to achieve the following: a PhD or equivalent in veterinary/animal physiology, or a related animal/veterinary science discipline a demonstrated research track record of research excellence in animal physiology as evidenced by national and international collaborations and publications in this field a demonstrated track record in securing research funding experience in teaching animal physiology including lectures, tutorials and supervision of laboratory and field-based practical's experience of successful supervision including Honours and Higher Degree by Research students excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication and time management skills demonstrated understanding and experience of relevant work health and safety issues, including laboratory and field-based work a valid driver's licence Senior Lecturer (Level C) who, in addition to above, has demonstrated capacity to: establish and lead a team of researchers to enhance the standing of the School secure nationally competitive research funding (e.g. ARC/NHRMC/MRFF) and/or industry/stakeholder-linked funding lead curriculum development that enhances student learning in the animal physiology curriculum. The Role The Senior Head Chef will be responsible for supervising a large kitchen team which produces three meals per day for up to 600 students and staff. The post holder will be responsible for catering for high profile clientele, private dining external functions and banqueting. The Head Chef must be able to develop existing teams to ensure that consistently exceptional standard of food and service is delivered. The post holder will also assist with day to day cleaning of kitchen and catering equipment, receipt and storage of goods, checking and signing for deliveries.
