The University of Minnesota is the second largest institution of higher education in the Midwest of the US by enrolment and has several campuses spread across Minnesota.

Founded in 1851, it is a public research university belonging to the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, a membership group of higher education institutions in the Midwest.

The largest of the five campuses is in Twin Cities, with more than 50,000 students making it the sixth largest campus student body in the US overall. There are other campuses are in Crookston, Duluth, Morris and Rochester.

It has more than 300 research, education, and outreach centres and institutes, on everything from the life sciences to public policy and technology.

The university also became a member of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) in 2007, and has led data analysis projects searching for gravitational waves – the existence of which were confirmed by scientists in February 2016.

Notable University of Minnesota alumni include eight Nobel Prize laureates, two Pulitzer Prize winners, and two vice-presidents of the United States – Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale.

Bob Dylan also enrolled before dropping out, and former UK deputy prime minister Nick Clegg won a scholarship to study there for a year.

The Golden Gophers are the institution’s intercollegiate sports team, with the university competing as a member of both the Big Ten Conference, one of the oldest collegiate athletics conferences in the US, as well as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Some 60 per cent of matriculants to the university are considered Minnesota residents, and some 40 per cent are out-of-state residents, according to the university’s statistics.

An estimated 78,190 donors brought the university’s total endowment value in 2015 to about $351 million.

Description The Center for Astrophysics and Space Science (CASS) at NYUAD is looking to appoint new independent fellows working in one (or more) of the following center's research fields Extrasolar Planets Galactic Astrophysics (including compact objects) Extragalactic Astrophysics and Cosmology Astroparticle Physics (Dark Matter searches, gamma-ray spectroscopy, gravitational waves) The center currently consists of eight faculty members and more than 25 researchers and PhD students. The Center possesses the unique possibility to investigate fundamental questions in astrophysics, astroparticle physics, and planetary physics from several points of view, with the expertise of its members ranging from collecting and analyzing state-of-the-art data on the nature of the visible and invisible matter in the Universe, to detailed theoretical and numerical studies from planets to galaxies, and linking them together cohesively. We expect successful applicants to work towards improving the collaborations and connections among the different areas. We invite applicants to visit our website to learn more about current research projects at CASS. The center fellows will have access to a 70,000-core Infiniband Cluster (Jubail) dedicated to the science division, several GPU-based clusters at NYUAD, and other supercomputer facilities through the CASS network. NYUAD also has guaranteed observing time on the Green Bank Telescope, the Very Long Baseline Array, and Las Cumbres Observatory, and is a participant in SDSS-V. Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or a closely related field. The appointment will be for an initial period of two years with a likely extension to a total of three years. CASS fellows will have dedicated funds for traveling, computing, publications, etc. The preferred starting date is Fall of 2026. The Role and the Department The role supports the IS Senior Manager (Integrations) to deliver effective integration solutions to the University and is part of the wider Information Services (IS) collection of teams, which underpins the delivery of customer focused information systems and services. Specifically, the post holder will: Support the design and implementation of software integration solutions across the university’s enterprise applications, evaluating existing components or systems to determine integration requirements and ensuring final solutions meet organisational architecture principals. Development of test cases and new methods to accelerate the integration task, as well as documenting integration processes for different stakeholders. Support ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the university’s integration environments. Development and implementation of automation scripts, for operational and analytical improvements. Deploy software builds and integration, developing and testing automation scripts using automation and troubleshooting in cases of failure. Work closely with Professional Support and Academic departments to support and identify requirements or improvements for integration. The Computing and Information Services (CIS) has an annual operational budget in excess of £27m, including multi-million pound programmes of change within year, and approximately 172 staff. The Senior Leadership Team report directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) with the following portfolios: Strategy and Change; Technical Services; Information Services, and; Cyber Security. CIS work with departments across the university to provide academic, teaching and administrative services that underpin the day-to-day activities of the whole organisation. Job Purpose:  The Research Engineer will support applied research and innovation in environmental sustainability, working with internal teams and industry partners to develop practical solutions.
