The University has a comprehensive range of study programmes and research disciplines spread across 10 faculties and over 140 academic departments and institutes/centres. There are over 27,700 undergraduate and postgraduate students who are recruited globally, and more than 2,000 members of academic and academic-related staff coming from multi-cultural backgrounds, many of whom are internationally renowned. Applications are invited for Research Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law, to commence on September 1, 2026 or as soon as possible, for two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal. The Faculty of Law is the longest established law school in Hong Kong. It plays a leading role in legal education in Hong Kong and Asia, through its various undergraduate, research postgraduate, and taught postgraduate programmes covering a wide range of legal subject areas. It is the largest and oldest law teaching institution in Hong Kong, currently consisting of over 80 teaching members and over 2,600 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Faculty welcomes applications from outstanding candidates who specialize in Law and Low-Altitude Economy. Applicants should normally have a first degree in Law (eg LLB, BA(Jurisprudence) and JD), and an additional postgraduate degree in Law (eg LLM, PhD, D Phil and SJD). Those who do not have an additional postgraduate degree in Law are also encouraged to apply if there is evidence of a strong publication record and relevant experience in teaching, legal practice or the judiciary, or if they possess a postgraduate degree in a non-law discipline. Applicants for the Professorship should be outstanding academics with an international reputation as leaders in their field. Applicants for Associate Professorship should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research. Applicants for Assistant Professorship should be academically strong and demonstrate potential for excellence as teachers and researchers. The appointee will be expected to make a significant contribution to the Faculty’s research profile, by producing high-quality research and actively participating in research communities. He or she will also be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of teaching on the Faculty’s undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes (including the Juris Doctor degree programme). Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Biology or related disciplines, preferably with experience in virology research. They should have solid knowledge of chemistry and biology, and an excellent command of spoken and written English and Chinese. Experience in bioinformatic data analysis including microbiome, virome and environmental metagenomics would be preferred. They should be logical, detail-oriented and self-motivated. Preference will be given to those with experience in virus transmission. The appointees will lead a research team to conduct data analysis for different types of data, including genomic/metagenomic sequencing data, ecological surveillance data, as well as development of analysis pipeline.
