The University of Nova Gorica (UNG) is a private, research oriented university, founded by two Slovene research institutes (Jožef Stefan Institute and the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts) and two Slovene municipalities. UNG’s activity includes higher education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as scientific research and expert activity. UNG started its operations in 1995. Its former name, Nova Gorica Polytechnic, was changed together with its formal status in 2006, when it became the University of Nova Gorica. Today it comprises seven schools and 12 research units.

We are looking for a highly professional, enthusiastic and committed individual to join our team in Biomedical Sciences, with a specific interest in Immunology. You would have expertise in the immunological basis of disease and its investigation. You will have a PhD in Biomedical Science, Immunology or related area, together with research and teaching experience in the immune basis of disease and its investigation. You will be expected to contribute to teaching and administration of the School’s Foundation, BSc and MSc Biomedical Science programmes, in addition to teaching on other relevant undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the school. You will complement existing research/teaching activities in the above areas within the school. You will be encouraged to develop your own research in conjunction with other members of the school, utilising the world-class research facilities available in the Life Science Building as well as in the James Parsons Building. The Opportunity You will develop and lead a research stream within the NICM Health Research Institute, with a focus on complementary and integrative health approaches that translate into practical healthcare applications. This is a 3-year fixed-term appointment based at Westmead campus, with appointment at Academic Level C or D determined by your skills and experience. About the project: Difficulties in swallowing or chewing affect millions worldwide, especially among the elderly. We are currently conducting a research project to develop transitional foods which can make a positive impact on the quality of life for those with swallowing difficulties.  This research position works closely with a multidisciplinary team of project investigators. We invite outstanding and talented candidates who are passionate about making a difference and have a strong desire to enhance their R&D competencies to apply. The primary role of this position is in the area of materials characterisation, focusing specifically on how foods break down due to oral forces and the effects of moisture and temperature. The work encompasses both experimental studies and modelling (finite element simulations). This position requires a strong aptitude in materials engineering, mechanics and data analysis. Key Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Conduct materials testing to characterise the mechanical and dissolution behaviour of foods Develop models based on micromechanical and macroscopic properties Document, publish and present research findings Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
