The University of Murcia (UM) is a one-hundred-year-old institution that can trace its origins back to the thirteenth century. It is an international institution and a reference center for higher education in the Region of Murcia. The UM strives for academic excellence and plays a key role in research, teaching and innovation and is also a pioneer in e-government, with its clearly defined digital university strategy.

The UM is a public and comprehensive university that offers 54 undergraduate, 70 master and 35 doctoral programs in the fields of Arts and Humanities, Engineering, Health Sciences, Sciences, Social Sciences and Law. The Faculties enjoy international recognition and boast important quality certifications. It promotes research and innovation in all areas of knowledge and works closely with national and international businesses and companies. There are 347 research groups and 4 research institutes and centers involved in a wealth of research activities (7000 articles have been published in indexed journals in the last five years according to Thomson Reuters WOS). Biomedical research is carried out at the three UM-affiliated hospitals and at the Biomedical Research Institute (IMIB), with 414 ongoing clinical trials. The Institute has been accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute.

The UM has a very diverse student body, with more than 50 nationalities represented on the campuses, thanks to the ERASMUS Program and to specific agreements with universities from Latin America, North America, Africa and Asia.

Students have the opportunity both to pursue intellectual development and to acquire professional skills. Several Libraries with “historical archives”, Sports facilities and Cultural activities are also available, while the Language Center offers courses in 10 different languages, including Spanish.

 

The UM is also involved in the 2030 Agenda with a special program named 17ODSesiones. Under this, every school will promote monthly one Sustainable Development Goal to raise awareness of the various goals within the university community and the rest of the region.

This cross-faculty and cross- departmental role is assigned to the Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology. The advertised position is for 40 hours per week and is limited to 6 months. Your personal sphere of influence: The members of the Faculty of Psychology engage in research and teaching focused on describing and explaining human experience and behavior, as well as changes therein. Based on integrative and complementary research approaches from neuroscience, cognitive science, and the social sciences, the goal is to make theoretically grounded and empirically testable contributions to scientific knowledge and its transfer. The Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology consists of approximately 100 staff members organized into eight research units with laboratories equipped with EEG, fNIRS, VR, eye-tracking, physiology, and brain stimulation systems. Your future tasks: Supporting the transition of researchers from the Vienna Cognitive Science Hub to the Faculty of Psychology as a replacement for the previous technical support provided by a data scientist. Transfer of collected scientific data, data backup/cloud-based infrastructure for collected data and study-related products. Assisting with the organization and post-processing of collected raw data for use in ongoing projects within the context of the Study Participant Platform (SPP). In particular, advanced statistical analysis methods (latent profile analysis, network analysis) and statistical software packages will be utilized. Administrative support for managing specialized software and transferring/developing analyses to open-source software. Support in presenting research on the Vienna CogSci Hub’s Transition website. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree and associated post-doctoral training in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or Biomedical Engineering. They should demonstrate (i) evidence of international recognition and scholarship; (ii) the ability to work across disciplines towards new research initiatives; (iii) a strong track record of high-quality research as indicated by publications (including multiple publications in high-impact journals of impact factor >10) and external grants; and (iv) a strong commitment to engage students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The appointee will provide leadership in imaging research with particular focus on pre-clinical animal imaging research, and assist with managing pre-clinical animal imaging infrastructures within the Department. He/She is expected to participate in applications for external competitive research grants for the Department, and will contribute to teach undergraduate and postgraduate programs, supervise student projects and theses, and take up administrative duties as required. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Full time fixed term for 2 years at Cobbitty, Camden Campus Opportunity to conduct research applying computational biology and AI modelling to plant-pathogen interactions Base Salary $113,400 - $121,054 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) at the University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Biology and AI Modelling to be based at the Plant Breeding Institute on the University's Camden Campus. SOLES has an international reputation for education and research, with well-funded external research collaborations across industry. The University of Sydney has significant strengths in plant breeding, crop production, plant biology and genetics, and agricultural robotics. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated computational biologist to join a multidisciplinary research team investigating plant-pathogen interactions through integrative computational modelling. You will develop and apply quantitative and data-driven models to study protein interactions and their context-dependent behaviour, linking computational predictions with condition-specific biological responses. You will have access to large-scale biological datasets, high-performance and cloud-based computing resources, and work in close collaboration with experimental biologists and external computational partners. The successful applicant will demonstrate clear potential to become a leader in their field, with a strong research trajectory focused on computational modelling of molecular interactions and regulatory processes to generate mechanistic insight into host-pathogen biology. Your research interests will complement and/or enrich existing strengths in the Institute and School in plant breeding, molecular biology, genetics and pathology. You will contribute to current research programs, particularly in resistance gene and avirulence gene cloning, functional studies, and host-pathogen interactions, and articulate a clear vision for collaboration within SOLES, across the University of Sydney and beyond. Your key responsibilities will be to: develop and apply computational models to investigate protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions in plant-pathogen systems integrate diverse omics datasets to infer molecular interactions and regulatory processes design, implement and maintain reproducible, scalable computational pipelines for large biological datasets optimise workflows for high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud-based environments collaborate closely with experimental research teams to translate model outputs into testable biological hypotheses contribute to scientific documentation, including high-impact publications, research grant applications and reports present research findings at national and international scientific conferences.
