The University of Mostar is a public university in the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The university has 10 faculties, eight institutes and one Academy of Fine Arts, and the student centre. There are 50 majors available, 46 specialisations, 70 study groups, and around 1,000 employees. Founded in 1977, the history of the university traces back to 1895, when a Franciscan theological school was established, and the university seal depicts the building of the Franciscan monastery. The university adopted the Croatian language as its official one in 1992, after the university split into two when the Bosnian professors left to form a new one with the old name - the University Džemal Bijedic of Mostar - and the original university was under the control of the Croatians. It is now the only Croatian speaking university in the country, Teaching is conducted in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies through 50 different studies and 65 study groups. Faculties include agriculture and food technology, economics, civil engineering, medicine, philosophy, and law. Institutes include economy, Croatian language, literature and history, Latinity, mechanical engineering and social research. There are more than 1,000 teachers and associates and 16,000 students, up from 6,256 in the academic year of 2006-07, making this the largest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The number of foreign students, the vast majority of whom are from Croatia, comprise about 17 per cent of the student population. The city of Mostar has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2005 and is the cultural capital of Herzegovina.

Work that matters As a Small Animal Veterinary Nurse, you will provide high-quality nursing support across general practice consultations, procedures, treatments, and surgeries within the Small Animal Hospital. This role operates across a rotating weekend roster to support the delivery of continuous patient care and hospital services. The research group integrates approaches from epidemiology, biostatistics, genetics, psychology, and other disciplines to study the effects of environmental, lifestyle, and social determinants on health of individuals and populations. The group participates in a range of international collaborative projects aimed at fostering multidisciplinary cooperation and contributing to evidence-based decision-making in public health and disease prevention. The doctoral student project and the duties The group is seeking a highly-motivated and committed doctoral student with strong interest in epidemiology and population health who is keen to learn new methods and analytical approaches. The student should be able to work independently, while benefiting from supervision and collaboration in an interdisciplinary environment.  The doctoral project focuses on the complex relationships between lifestyle, environmental exposures, socioeconomic factors, biological mechanisms and cancer morbidity and mortality. The project is based on a large Czech population-based cohort linked to national register data. The project will analyse the existing dataset using both traditional epidemiological approaches (e.g. longitudinal cohort analyses) and integration of genetic and omics data. The overall aim is to improve the understanding of determinants of cancer in the population and to contribute to improved preventive strategies. The successful candidate will closely collaborate with colleagues in the environmental epidemiology group as well as with other researchers in other research groups at RECETOX. Reporting to the Registrar, Secretary and Chief Operating Officer, and as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team, the CPO will play a crucial leadership role at a time of significant change for Lancaster and the wider higher education landscape, with staff experience at the heart of the University’s priorities. The CPO will provide strategic leadership across the full people, organisational development and transformation agenda. Working closely with the Vice-Chancellor and senior leadership team, you will shape and deliver a progressive and forward-looking People and Culture Plan aligned to the University’s priorities, ensuring Lancaster has the capability, culture and workforce profile required for long-term success. We are seeking a strategic and values-driven leader with experience operating at Executive or Board level in a complex organisation. You will bring a strong track record of leading large-scale organisational change, building high-performing teams, and delivering both strategic and operational excellence. You will be confident navigating employee relations and trade union engagement, and able to build trusted relationships and influence across a wide range of stakeholders. With excellent judgement, emotional intelligence and communication skills, you will be adept at operating in a collegial and intellectually dynamic environment. While experience in higher education is advantageous, we welcome candidates from related sectors who can demonstrate delivery of organisation-wide transformation and cultural change.
