Your personal sphere of influence: The research group Statistical Analysis and Inference (STAIN) (https://stain.univie.ac.at/) at the Department of Statistics and Operations Research (https://isor.univie.ac.at/), University of Vienna, is offering a PhD position in the area of Mathematical Statistics and Machine Learning, starting at the earliest possible date, and no later than September. The doctoral position is funded within the framework of a FWF project and is part of the DFG–FWF Research Unit 5381 (https://for5381.uni-freiburg.de/en/research-unit-5381/). The Research Unit offers a highly stimulating and collaborative research environment, including numerous scientific events, workshops, and joint activities, from which early‑career researchers benefit particularly strongly. Your future tasks: You actively participate in research and administration, which means: In collaboration with your advisor you will develop and complete your own PhD-project in the area of mathematical statistics or the theory of machine learning. We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement (= project proposal) within 12-18 months and that you regularly participate in the PhD seminar. You get acquainted with a recent research area, formulate new and relevant mathematical problems and solve them independently under the supervision of your PhD advisor. You take on administrative tasks in research. You work on your own publications, academic articles and presentations. This is part of your personality: Completed Master's degree or diploma, in the field of statistics, mathematics or a closely related field (completed or about to be completed). A strong background in mathematical statistics and probability theory. Enthusiasm for abstract mathematical problems and strong tenacity and patience in solving them. Active interaction and discussion with the colleagues from the research group and the department. Programming skills. Didactic competences / experience with e-learning. The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of  RESEARCH FELLOW (UNIVERSITY RESEARCHER) IN THE AREA OF MIGRATION, HEALTH, AGE CARE AND DISABILITY for a fixed-term period from 1 August 2026 to 31 December 2029, or as agreed. The Faculty of Social Sciences invite applications for a position as Research Fellow in Migration, health, age care & disability within the research action Diversity in Society and Life (DIVSOL). The appointed researcher is expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary research on the DIVSOL theme Participation, Inclusion and Empowerment, dedicated to understanding inclusion and the equitable treatment of minorities, essential for social justice, self-empowerment and nonconflictual ways of living together, in this position with reference to migration-related diversity.  To be recruited as a Research Fellow (University Researcher), the appointed person needs to have documented independent research activity; the ability to lead a research group; activities in Finnish or international research groups or networks, and experience in the acquisition of research funding. Further, we expect evidence of public engagement. We primarily seek to appoint at the Research Fellow level, but exceptionally strong Postdoctoral Researcher candidates will also be considered. RESPONSIBILITIES  The appointed researcher is expected to pursue an independent research programme,  typically in collaboration with existing research groups at the university. The appointed researcher will contribute to teaching and administrative tasks (up to 5% of their working time annually). It is possible to complete the teaching and administrative tasks in English. QUALIFICATIONS   An ideal applicant has: A doctoral degree in a suitable field. Research experience after completing the doctoral degree is necessary. Scientific interest and contributions in the given application domain preferably demonstrated through publications. Articles in top tier venues, such as Migration Studies, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, or Comparative Migration Studies, are highly valued.  Applicants are expected to describe their research interests and explain how these relate to the scope and topic of the position. The McCarthy Lab has an exciting opportunity for a prospective Postdoctoral Research Fellow who is interested in understanding virulence and hospital persistence in Acinetobacter baumannii. The role will involve exploring how Acinetobacter baumannii virulence is impacted by desiccation across multiple in vivo models including Galleria mellonella and mice. The role will also involve using a range of molecular biology approaches, live cell imaging and the generation and analysis of multi-omics data sets. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate and efficient data generation, data management, collation and the reporting of results to the project lead. The post-holder will need to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, organisational, team working and communication skills and have a keen interest in drafting research outputs for peer-review publication. The successful applicant will work closely with other researchers within the McCarthy Lab and with industrial and scientific partners in other centres. The role may also involve a research visit to a collaborator in the United States. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Experience and knowledge in the field of biofilm formation is essential. Experience with with Galleria mellonella and advanced microscopy methods is also highly desirable. They should be enthusiastic, well motivated and be able to work both independently and collaboratively. This position is available for 24 months and is supported by the Medical Research Council and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council . An enthusiastic and creative team of medical educators are working within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to develop a new School of Medicine, and we are looking for a Lead for Quality Assurance to join the team at this exciting time. The successful candidate will focus on supporting the Course Director with quality assurance and student progress over the four years of the School of Medicine curriculum. Our innovative programme aims to produce a new type of doctor - excellent and holistic clinical leaders who can drive change, delivering integrated and technologically advanced healthcare for their patients and communities. The programme will have a particular emphasis on digital and communication health technology (a research strength at Surrey), as well as a ‘One Health’ ethos that promotes understanding of a ‘whole society’ approach to health and builds on our aims to develop truly interprofessional training. The role The post holder will work alongside the Course Director, supporting them in the leadership and delivery of the School’s quality assurance processes over all four years. They will deputise in chairing the Student Progress and Support Committee (SPSC), ensuring our students have the support they need to meet the required learning outcomes of the course. Alongside this, they will contribute to teaching across a range of areas including biomedical sciences, general medicine and specialties. The post-holder will support Surrey medical students by delivering high quality large and small group teaching, including case-based learning, team-based learning, special study units and clinical and communication skills sessions. In addition, we would expect the post holder to contribute to our admissions process, to standard setting, writing knowledge test questions and OSCEs, and to support OSCE examining. About you To join us at this exciting time, you’ll need to be a forward-looking individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and the ambition to drive innovation in medical education, with particular expertise in clinical skills. You’ll have full registration with the GMC and a higher professional qualification (usually a doctoral degree or equivalent).  In addition to these qualifications, you’ll have experience of providing high quality teaching and will be able to demonstrate a significant academic publication record and evidence of scholarly contributions to conferences, professional meetings, and societies.
