About the University of Hyogo

Basic information and contact details for the University of Hyogo

The University of Hyogo (UH) is a public university headquartered in Kobe, Hyogo prefecture, Japan. It was established in April 2004 when three universities were amalgamated. UH's predecessor institutions were the Kobe University of Commerce, founded in 1929; the Himeji Institute of Technology, founded in 1944; and the College of Nursing Art and Science, Hyogo, founded in 1993. Today, the university is spread across nine campuses located across the prefecture. Sites include the Kobe Campus for Commerce; the Himeji Camus for Engineering; the Harima Campus for Science; the Akashi Campus for Nursing, Art and Science; and the Awaji Campus for Landscape Design and Management. The University of Hyogo consists of six undergraduate schools, 14 graduate schools, and four affiliated laboratories. The newest faculty is the Graduate School of Disaster Resilience and Governance, which was established in April 2017 and aims to draw on the experience and knowledge that emerged in Hyogo as the region recovered from the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake of 1995. UH is home to a Japan's largest astronomical telescope, and also has a medium-sized synchrotron radiation facility. It is located close to a number of state-of-the-art research facilities, including the large synchrotron radiation facility "SPring-8" and the K computer, a supercomputer used for a variety of applications, including disaster prevention, climate research and medical research. The colours of the University of Hyogo emblem are blue and gold, which the university says represent "profound wisdom and a bright future".The three pillars used as the motif denote “education, research, and social contribution”. These three strands are described as the "principles" of the university.

LANGUAGE EDUCATION INSTITUTE Senior Teaching Fellow / Teaching Fellow / Instructor in Chinese Language / English Language (several posts) About LEI: The Language Education Institute, a new academic unit established on 1 July 2025, formulates policies, designs curricula and delivers teaching activities for the education of languages among students at PolyU, focusing mainly on the Chinese and English languages. LEI strives to become a regional and international leader in language education, particularly in the application of the latest technologies in language learning, teaching and assessment. It drives scholarship and best practices in language education among the PolyU community. LEI comprises the Chinese Language Centre (CLC), English Language Centre (ELC) and Technology-Enhanced Language Education Centre (TELEC), which are constituent units with their own Directors. CLC and ELC offer service language teaching in Chinese and English for all students in the University while TELEC undertakes service language teaching using digital learning platforms and technological tools such as artificial intelligence and immersive technologies. CLC and ELC are committed to excellence in learning and teaching and aim to strengthen students’ language proficiency and communication skills, foster independent and life‑long learning, and support whole‑person development. They provide Chinese and English language teaching services tailored to the diverse needs of the University’s students, delivering language enhancement and communication subjects, including AI as a Tool for Language Learning, in accordance with University requirements. Ref.: 536163 Work type: Full-time Department: Department of Psychiatry, School of Clinical Medicine (21500) Categories: Professoriate Staff Applications are invited for joint appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and School of Biomedical Sciences (Ref.: 536163), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Applicants should possess: (i) a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a related discipline; (ii) evidence of international recognition and a strong record of scholarship with a demonstrated ability to work across disciplines towards new research initiatives; (iii) a strong commitment to engaging students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and (iv) a strong track record of high-quality research as indicated by publication record and external grants. We are seeking academic leaders and scholars whose work advance the understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying mental disorders and neuropsychiatric diseases. We welcome applicants from psychiatry and related fields, in particular genomics, epigenetics, neurobiology, biostatistics and big data analytics. Applicants who adopt multidisciplinary approaches to address key challenges in psychiatry and neuroscience, and with research of high translational potential are particularly encouraged to apply. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of the basic salary. Your personal sphere of influence: As a prae-doc at this chair, you will receive comprehensive training in criminal law (and, if desired, in related areas of law), including practical legal practice.
