The University of Houston-Downtown is a member of the four-campus, state-supported University of Houston system. UHD offers four-year bachelor degree programmes in 44 different academic areas and eight master’s degree programmes. The university is made up of five colleges specialising in subject areas including business, humanities and social sciences, public service and sciences and technology.
All of the university’s programmes are geared towards preparing students for future careers. UHD also boasts a 20 to one student-to-faculty ratio and one of the lowest tuition rates among state-supported higher education institutions. The UHD campus is located in the centre of downtown Houston, the fourth most populous city in the United States and one of the most culturally diverse.
The University of Houston-Downtown College opened in 1974 after the University of Houston took over South Texas Junior College. With the approval of the Texas Legislature, UHDC became a distinct university within the University of Houston System five years later. The first degree programme offered at the university was a bachelor of science in criminal justice.
UH-Downtown College dropped its "college" title in the 1980s and soon became one of the state’s fastest growing universities. The institution started offering graduate programmes in criminal justice, security management, professional writing and education. In the 1990s, the College of Public Services was moved into the brand new Commerce Street Building.
The College of Business was given a new home in 2007 with the opening of the Shea Street Building. The first ever cohort of MBA students at UHD were enrolled in January 2012. With a diverse student population, UHD has been recognised as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a Minority-Serving Institution.

Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in Automation, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, or related areas in development would be preferred. Experience in following areas is highly desirable: Hands-on experience in electronics/electrical. Programming of Microcontrollers and embedded systems. Description The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is announcing the opening of an Artist-in-Residence program and is welcoming applications from artists to fill the fourth position to start on September 1, 2026. The CGSB was established in 2012 to develop a world-class research environment at NYUAD and in the UAE. The NYUAD-CGSB includes a diverse array of research programs oriented around two main directions, “Biomedicine and Health” and “Environmental Adaptation and Sustainability”. The CGSB encourages and promotes scientific and cultural interactions by regularly hosting events such as lectures, workshops, and Science Cafés, facilitating the exchange of ideas and knowledge between program participants and the community. You will be working in an exciting and varied role that blends one to one, and mass fundraising, as part of the Leadership Giving team within the Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement department. Description As part of the Electrical Engineering program of the Engineering Division and the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at NYU Abu Dhabi the group of Prof. Kostas J. Kyriakopoulos seeks to improve the autonomy of Field Robotic systems by fusing control theoretic and machine intelligence approaches. Formal models are directly applied in real experimental facilities. Marine Robotics is our current emphasis, without excluding candidates with prior experience on Aerial or Ground Systems. We are seeking a Post-Doctoral associate to join our expanding team and make significant contributions to the field. The researcher is expected to have (i) strong engineering skills to find innovative and cost-effective means to improve our research, and (ii) exemplary passion and motivation to enhance our multidisciplinary research at the intersection of control theory and machine intelligence. Methodologies of interest include: Robot modelling, Nonlinear and Optimal control, Reinforcement learning, and Data-driven modeling and control. The Post-Doctoral associate will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi and will directly report to Prof. K.J.Kyriakopoulos in close collaboration with other researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate research assistants. The Post-Doctoral associate will engage with our regular collaborators at local institutions in the UAE and abroad. Key responsibilities Conduct high-quality and innovative research primarily focused on Control theory and ML methodologies for Field Robotics; Support the supervisor in developing and implementing the research agenda; Reproduce results of the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods; Design and implement experiments on real platforms operating outdoors, to compare our proposed work with SOTA baselines; Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals and conferences; Create, maintain, and document high-quality research code for reproducibility; and Collaborate with scientists within the NYU Global Network and in Abu Dhabi. About us King’s College London invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in AI for Equitable Disease Modelling to join the GeoAI for Health Equity Lab (GAHEL, pronounced “gail”) led by Dr. Sabrina Li. The PDRA will contribute to Dr. Li’s UKRI-funded Future Leaders Fellowship project which focusses on integrating equity considerations into infectious disease modelling and surveillance, starting with the UK. The PDRA will be based in the Department of Geography, but will have access to training and support from King’s Health Partners Digital Health Hub, King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and the Digital Futures Institute. The PDRA will also have access to research and career development from King’s Centre for Research Staff Development. The postholder will work closely with Dr. Li and in collaboration with national and international interdisciplinary partners based at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, John Hopkins University (USA), and Google Deepmind (London). About the role The PDRA will lead the development of new computational and mathematical models to quantify and predict infectious disease risk, particularly for identifying high risk individuals and groups. The PDRA will translate conceptual frameworks into mathematical models of complex cross-scale disease dynamics across different epidemiological scenarios. A key responsibility is to test key assumptions about differential disease risk by integrating high-resolution socio-ecological, environmental, and novel health data from individual and population sources. This research will advance our understanding of how major infectious diseases of concern in the UK emerge, spread, and unequally affect different individuals and population groups. Outcomes of this research will help advance the development of more equitable, spatial data-driven approaches to public health surveillance and pandemic preparedness, with direct links to public health policy. The findings will inform the development of a real-time spatial AI system to improve early detection and risk prediction, to protect vulnerable populations in the UK and in the future globally. This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30 April 2030. Part time employment may be considered.
