Based in Qom, the University of Hazrate Masoumeh is named after Fatima Masoumeh, one of the most important early figures of Shi-ite Islam. It was the first university for women created in Iran after the Revolution, and the second overall. 
It has faculties of humanities, management and accounting, and theology and law, with plans to expand to basic sciences and engineering. 
The humanities faculty, established in 2007, started by specialising in English translation but has since expanded to offer languages, counselling and art. Management and accounting offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with options including E-business, small enterprise management, marketing, strategic management, entrepreneurship, and international business management. 
Theology and law covers topics such as Quranic science and traditions, law and jurisprudence.
Undergraduates must prove fluency in Persian, but master's students have the option of submitting work in English.

Description

The Clinical Artificial Intelligence Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks to improve patient care by developing new machine learning methodologies that tackle unique computational problems in healthcare applications. We use large real-world complex datasets, including data extracted from electronic health records and medical images, for applications pertaining to patient diagnostics and prognostics.

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the team and make significant contributions to the field. The researcher is expected to have (i) strong machine learning skills to improve model performance and robustness, and (ii) exemplary passion and motivation to pursue multidisciplinary research at the intersection of computing and healthcare. Methodologies of interest include:


	multi-modal learning,
	foundation models, including large language models,
	agentic AI,
	multi-agent AI systems,
	transfer learning,
	self-supervised learning,
	and federated learning.


The Research Assistant will be primarily based at NYU Abu Dhabi. The researcher will report directly to Dr. Farah Shamout and work in close collaboration with other researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate research assistants. The researcher will engage with our regular collaborators across the NYU campuses and local medical institutions in the UAE.

Key Responsibilities

Research


	Support the supervisor in developing and implementing the research agenda;
	Conduct high-quality and innovative research primarily focused on ML for healthcare;
	Design and implement experiments to compare proposed work with SOTA baselines;
	Publish research findings in high-impact journals and conferences;
	Communicate and present research findings at international academic gatherings;
	Create, maintain, and document high-quality research code for reproducibility;
	Maintain good practice in managing and accessing sensitive medical datasets;
	And collaborate with scientists within the NYU Global Network and in Abu Dhabi.


Minimum Qualifications


	Currently has or is in the process of completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a recognized institution
	Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, computer engineering, or relevant technical field
	Demonstrable research experience involving data pre-processing and preparation for machine learning models
	Demonstrable research experience in conducting experiments for training and evaluating deep neural networks
	Knowledge of multi-modal learning, transfer learning, transformers, or self-supervised learning
	Experience in dealing with large medical datasets (e.g., electronic health records data or medical images)
	Ability to use high performance computing cluster
	Proficient programming experience in Python and libraries (e.g., Pytorch, TensorFlow)
	Experience in maintaining high-quality code on Github
	Experience in running and managing experiments using GPUs
	Ability to visualize experimental results and learning curves
	Effective inter-personal and team-building skills
	Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and in a team to get the work done
	Excellent communication skills (oral and written communication)
	Willingness to learn and confront new challenges


Preferred Qualifications


	Bachelor’s/ Master’s thesis conducted in the area of machine learning for healthcare and related topics
	First-author peer-reviewed published papers (or under review)
	Evidence of leadership and service activities in the academic domain

Job Purpose

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to coordinate all aspects of the intervention and study processes, including recruitment, planning, implementation, liaison with stakeholders, monitoring, data management, outcome evaluation and dissemination activities. This will be a part time role.

Key Responsibilities


	Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
	Undertake these responsibilities in the project: 
	
		i. Coordinate day-to-day study operations, including project timelines, participant scheduling, and study logistics
		ii. Maintain study documentation, recruitment logs, screening records, and project trackers
		iii. Coordinate meetings and communications among investigators, support workers, clinicians, and participants
		iv. Ensure intervention fidelity and adherence to the study protocol

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the implementation, testing, and validation of the high-frequency ultrasound research platform through experimental setup, data acquisition, software development, and day-to-day technical execution of the project.

Key Responsibilities


	Assist in the development, implementation, and testing of signal processing and imaging algorithms for high-frequency ultrasound structural and functional imaging.
	Support experimental setup, data collection, phantom preparation, system calibration, and routine operation of imaging hardware and associated measurement equipment.
	Conduct bench top and phantom experiments according to defined protocols, and assist in organizing, processing, and documenting experimental data.
	Develop and maintain software scripts, processing pipelines, and visualization tools for imaging experiments and performance evaluation.

These posts arise in connection with a Senior Research Fellowship on ‘Philosophy of Contemporary and Future Science’ awarded to Professor Darrell Rowbottom, which runs from 2022–2027. Professor Rowbottom is now seeking Two Postdoctoral Fellows to join the project team over the course of one to two years.

We are especially interested in candidates whose work connects with the natural sciences, and especially with recent developments therein (such as increased interdisciplinarity and the involvement of AI). However, we are open to considering other applicants with excellent research records and a clear, well-articulated vision of how they can contribute to the project.

The appointee will work as part of the team headed by Professor Rowbottom. This will involve: (1) carrying out collaborative research (including with scientists); (2) authorship and co-authorship of papers suitable for publication in leading journals; (3) authorship and submission of derivative grant proposals to funding bodies; (4) organizing seminars, reading groups, workshops and other related research activities; (5) teaching courses at undergraduate or postgraduate levels; (6) performing occasional outreach activities (such as lectures aimed at the general public); and (7) managing/updating the project website.

The teaching load will be one or two courses per year, distributed according to the departmental needs. English will be the language of instruction.

Appointment

The minimum annual salary for the posts will be 432,000 HKD (which corresponds to 44,000 GBP and 55,000 USD at current exchange rates). A gratuity of approximately 130,000 HKD will be paid after two years of service. The Center for Brain and Health (CBH) (https://brainandhealth.org/) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Research Scientist to explore scientific questions related to an in-progress normative brain database. The Research Scientist will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team responsible for collection, c, MEG, EEG, and eye tracking. The tentpole of the CBH is a normative brain database - the first of its kind in the region - that includes structural, functional, and diffusion MRI, behavioral and health measures, genetic information, and lifestyle questionnaires

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, MR Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Postdoctoral experience or equivalent is preferred. This position requires extensive experience with multimodal MRI, including functional and structural MRI and tractography. Experience with big data analysis techniques is essential. Experience working with other large brain databases is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess strong computational skills and a strong publication record.
