Founded in 1989, the University of A Coruña is a modern, public university located in the city of A Coruña, Galicia, in northwestern Spain.

The city is home to the Roman Tower of Hercules, a historic lighthouse that can be found on A Coruña’s flag and coat of arms.

A Coruña is also known for its ‘galerias’ - balconies encased in a glass frame in order to let the sunshine in during the summer and offer protection from cold weather and rain throughout the winter.

The university’s departments are split into two main campuses, one in A Coruña itself and the other in the neighbouring city of Ferrol. The A Coruña campus is spread across three of the city’s suburbs: Elviña and Zapateira, which are situated near the site of the Battle of Elviña (which took place amid the Peninsular War), and Oza.

The university’s motto is Hac Luce, which translates as ‘with this light’. Its stated mission is ‘to create, manage and disseminate cultural, scientific, technological and professional knowledge via the development of research and teaching’.

It offers degree programmes in arts and humanities, engineering and architecture, health sciences, science, social sciences and legal studies. Courses on the cultural, social and linguistic identity of Galicia are also available to students.

The university aims to be ‘a quality public service that creates higher levels of welfare for society through the pursuit of social, scientific and technological advances’, conducted within a framework of ethical standards.

A Coruña is also a university with a thriving Arts scene and offers its students a range of exhibitions, workshops, courses and theatre and dance classes in between lectures.

0.6 FTE (21 hours per week) Part time fixed term for 12 months based at Camperdown Campus gain hands-on experience working on a cutting-edge space mission alongside leading engineers and researchers Base Salary $107,312 - $115,686 (pro-rata) + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The TOLIMAN Space Telescope is an ambitious international space mission led by the University of Sydney, designed to search for planets orbiting Alpha Centauri, our nearest neighbouring star system. The mission combines cutting-edge optics, precision mechatronics, advanced electronics, spacecraft engineering, and data science to achieve astrometric measurements at unprecedented levels of precision. To accomplish this, a unique optical system has been developed that uses a diffractive mask to imprint a highly stable optical ruler onto the telescope image, enabling the detection of minute stellar motions caused by orbiting planets. To make this measurement possible, several novel and highly precise engineering systems are being developed, including advanced fine-pointing mechanisms, thermal control systems, precision electronics, and specialised flight instrumentation. The mission is progressing rapidly toward spacecraft integration and testing ahead of its planned 2027-28 launch window, and an exciting opportunity exists to join the engineering team during this critical phase of development. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The researcher will be part of the team of the MCCS NATURE Project (https://www.nparks.gov.sg/Cuge/Programmes-Schemes/Research%20Programmes/MCCS%20Programme). The primary role involves developing and validating CFD models to study wave attenuation by mangroves, seagrass, and coral. Responsibilities include calibrating simulations with experimental data, analyzing shear coefficients and drag forces, and contributing to interdisciplinary research on coastal protection, with an emphasis on delivering accurate and impactful modeling insights. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: 1. Wave Stochastic Analysis and Hydrodynamics Conduct advanced stochastic analysis of wave environments to evaluate the performance of floating structures.  Analyze hydrodynamic behavior of floating breakwaters under varied sea conditions. 2. CFD and Finite Element Modeling Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize the design and performance of floating breakwaters. Develop finite element models for stability assessment, structural integrity, and dynamic response of floating systems. 3. Connector Design Design and analyze mechanical connectors for the integration of multi-purpose floating breakwater systems, ensuring structural stability and durability. 4. Design and Integration Develop innovative designs for floating breakwaters that integrate wave energy converters (WECs), tidal energy systems, and solar energy platforms. Optimize design configurations to maximize energy harnessing and wave attenuation. 5. Experimental Testing Plan and conduct physical model tests in wave flumes or basins to validate computational models. Analyze experimental data to improve and validate the floating breakwater design. 6. Research Documentation and Dissemination: Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to disseminate findings to academic and industry stakeholders. Contribute to project proposals and progress updates for funding agencies. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. 7. Project Management Support: Ensure timely execution of project milestones Coordinate with external collaborators and manage data-sharing protocols. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements PhD/Master’s in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
