The University of Colima is a Mexican public higher education institution with several campuses across the state of Colima. Founded in 1940 as the People’s University of Colima, it was granted state autonomy in 1962 and operates independently without government control. Today, the university prides itself on its core principles of nurturing social responsibility among the local community. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses across a range of subjects, as well as some vocational and high-school level education, as is common in Mexican institutions. The university population is large, totalling more than 26,000 students and about 2,000 academic staff. Courses are wide ranging across arts and humanities, business and administration, health and veterinary medicine, technology and social sciences. The university has a very international student community, and prides itself on its multiculturalism, hosting events through the academic year to showcase the many nationalities and languages spoken on campus. A number of courses are taught in English, and the institution hosts student exchange programmes with a choice of one or two semesters abroad. Its official partner institution is the University Tunk Abdul Rahman in Malaysia. The University of Colima’s mascot is the Loro – a parrot – which was chosen as a symbol of joy and intelligence. University facilities are plentiful, and include a large library with around 100,000 publications in the centre of the city. Colima’s main university campus is a 3km walk from the historic centre, where students meet for the bar scene and nightlife. Colima itself is in the west of Mexico on the Pacific coast, making it a popular tourist destination for access to beaches, surfing and watersports.

Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related fields. Possessing a Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in Electrical/Electronics Engineering environment. Have deep, hands-on competence in the following areas: High voltage switching Engineering design, modelling & analysis of conventional power, wind & solar farms Engineering design of transmission & distribution substations, electrical distribution systems of industries and commercial buildings Power system protection application and relay coordination Digital/Analogue/Power electronics IoT/Micro-controller application It will be advantageous with working knowledge of/as: Knowledge in programming/using Python, MATLAB, LTspice, IoT platform. Authorised high voltage switching Engineer Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of industry practices and engineering principles to bring industry perspective to SIT Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment.
