Basic information and contact details for the University of Chile

The University of Chile, based in the capital city of Santiago, is the oldest in the country, and one of the most prestigious in the region.

Through its research, teaching and innovation across sciences and arts, the university aims to tackle national and regional issues in society. It was founded with a view to promote democracy, science and technological development, and social mobility.

There are five campuses containing many research centres, museums, health centres and sports facilities.

The health facilities include a clinical hospital and research laboratories, serving the public as well as pioneering medical research and providing opportunities for students.

One of the first astronomy observatories in Latin America – The National Astronomy Observatory founded in 1852 – belongs to the university.

On the campus, sports facilities are available both to students and staff. Interfaculty sports competitions take place all through the year.

Among the notable alumni are two Nobel laureates – poets Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral – and 20 presidents of Chile.

The university is organised into 14 faculties and 4 interdisciplinary institutes, offering a total of undergraduate 66 programmes, 36 doctoral programmes, 119 master’s programmes and other specialised courses.

In addition to an exam for applicants, the university also offers separate admission routes to outstanding athletes, blind students and other specified groups.

A third of all scientific publications in the country are associated with the university. Currently there are ongoing research projects in education, health, engineering and agriculture.

The most iconic building belonging to the university is Main House, designed in a neoclassical style in 1872.

Description The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for Associate Research Scientist positions in the broad research areas of mathematical analysis and partial differential equations (PDEs). While all applicants with a background in the analysis of PDEs will be considered, candidates with prior experience in theoretical physics, fluid mechanics, kinetic theory, dispersive equations or harmonic analysis will be given special attention. The Research Associates will be appointed for a duration of two years and will work under the supervision of Associate Professor Diogo Arsénio on subjects including: Magnetohydrodynamics and the mathematical theory of plasmas. Collisional kinetic models and their hydrodynamic limits. Dispersive phenomena in kinetic theory. Quantum gases. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in mathematics, physics or a related field. We seek candidates with an outstanding academic record, with at least 3 years of experience. The terms of employment are internationally competitive, and they include housing subsidies, as well as educational support for families. Job Description FACULTY OF ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES ACADEMY OF WELLNESS AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Social Work (25260796) The Academy is dedicated to developing high-quality research that addresses social problems, and to engage in evidence-based research to inform macro and micro practice in social work and counselling. As a training institution, the Academy is committed to delivering high-quality education and training in social work, social policy and counselling and in related disciplines at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The prospective scholars are encouraged to participate and contribute by means of research, training and consultation to the professional community in Hong Kong. The appointee is expected to conduct cutting-edge academic research, contribute to academic programme development and assume high-level service and administrative responsibilities. We are looking for outstanding candidates who can complement or add to our existing strengths in social gerontology, healthy aging, life course, mental health; application of innovative approaches in practice; smart society and wellbeing; and macro practice.
