The programmes are multidisciplinary, innovative, and designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in a rapidly evolving professional and academic landscape.

International community

The University of Barcelona is home to a dynamic and cosmopolitan community, attracting talent from all over the world. Each year, more than 10,000 international students representing 145 nationalities join its diverse campuses, creating an environment rich in cultural exchange and global perspectives. This diversity is reflected not only in the classroom but also in the university’s vibrant social and academic life, fostering collaboration and mutual understanding among students from different backgrounds.

As a proud founding member of the Erasmus+ programme, the University of Barcelona offers an extensive range of international mobility opportunities through multiple programmes and more than 2,600 agreements with universities worldwide. These partnerships enable UB students to take part in academic exchanges and allow students from partner institutions to join UB for a semester or more. These initiatives are complemented by comprehensive support services, including language courses, intercultural activities, and personalised guidance, helping international students feel fully integrated and supported throughout their academic journey.

Comprehensive Student Services

The UB offers a wide range of services to support students’ academic and personal experience. Academic guidance is tailored to individual needs and complemented by counselling and specialised support. Language courses are available through the Escola d’Idiomes Moderns, Spanish language and culture courses through Estudios Hispánicos, and welcome and linguistic support activities through the UB’s Language Services, fostering multilingual and intercultural competence.

Students can access 16 libraries with the European seal of excellence, holding over 2.2 million resources, 38,000 electronic journals, and more than 250 specialised databases. Sports facilities are available to support students’ wellbeing. Cultural, volunteering, and student representation opportunities encourage personal development and active participation. The UB Student Card provides discounts and access to services, while online platforms simplify the management of academic and administrative procedures.

Master’s Degrees

UB master’s programmes are designed to combine academic excellence with practical, professional preparation. They cover a wide variety of disciplines, from arts and humanities to sciences, engineering, and health. Each programme is carefully structured to develop critical thinking, digital literacy, and lifelong learning skills, ensuring graduates are ready to face complex challenges in the workforce or continue their studies in doctoral programmes.

Many programmes offer internship opportunities, collaboration with research projects, and access to professional networks, enhancing employability and practical experience. Master’s students also benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, and research centres that complement their learning and support advanced research.

The UB offers both official master’s degrees, recognised nationally and internationally, and UB postgraduate courses, designed to provide specialised training and professional development across all types of fields.

Doctoral Studies

UB doctoral programmes provide a solid foundation for careers in research, academia, and industry. Students can pursue full-time or part-time study over three to five years, submitting their thesis in Catalan, Spanish, or English. Programmes combine core research training with cross-disciplinary seminars, specialised workshops, and professional skills development, preparing students for diverse career paths.

Industrial doctorates offer the opportunity to collaborate with companies while conducting research, connecting academia with industry. Doctoral candidates also benefit from co-supervision agreements with international universities and access to leading researchers and research networks.

UB is a recognised research leader in Spain and Europe, with 16 research institutes, over 1,200 active projects, and 250+ consolidated research groups.
