We have a great opportunity to join our School of Veterinary Medicine, based within the University of Surrey, in our state-of-the art teaching and research facilities. The role We are seeking a skilled and motivated part-time Laboratory Technician (0.5 FTE / 18 hours per week) to support the effective and safe day-to-day operation of the Histopathology Laboratory. The post holder will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, supporting histology processes, and ensuring the safe handling and disposal of chemicals and solvents in line with health and safety requirements. The role also involves providing technical support to staff, researchers, and students, under the direction of the Senior Laboratory Technician. About you Essential Skills and Experience Experience working in a laboratory environment, ideally within histopathology, clinical pathology or a related discipline. Proven experience of working safely within a laboratory environment, with a sound understanding of COSHH regulations. Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage stock and prioritise tasks effectively. Good communication skills and the ability to support others. Desirable Skills and Experience Experience with histology equipment and techniques. Experience supporting research or teaching laboratories. Key responsibilities: To provide comprehensive advice, support and guidance to students and applicants with disabilities/neurodivergent conditions and to liaise with staff and other agencies to secure the support that students require. Providing advice and guidance to disabled students/applicants, both on and off campus, including remote and collaborative partner settings, with occasional evening and weekend work. Assess the interaction of a student’s disability with the academic environment and develop plans for reasonable adjustments based on professional recommendations. Liaise with academic and support staff to facilitate appropriate study, assessment, and environmental adaptations, including temporary adjustments for illness, injury, and pregnancy. Support students in applying for Disabled Students’ Allowances and liaise with external agencies to secure necessary funding and support. Deliver staff training on disability awareness, legal responsibilities under equality legislation, and keep up to date on best practices in supporting students with disabilities. About You We are looking for someone who has a good understanding of the responsibilities placed on Higher Education Institutions by the Equalities Act and of the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) process. Additionally, you should have a sound knowledge of the communication and learning needs of students with disabilities/neurodivergent conditions in Higher Education and of applications of technology to neurodivergent conditions and disabilities within an HE environment. Location: City Campus – Festival Plaza / Kaurna Country View Position Description About the Role Flinders University is seeking a proactive and motivated individual to join our team as Student Services Advisor (Flinders Online) for our online students and be an integral part of our City Campus Services team. In this dynamic role, you will support Flinders Online students across the entire student lifecycle, providing high‑quality guidance on enrolment, course requirements and university processes. As a key point of contact, you will deliver accurate and engaging information that helps students transition confidently into their studies and fosters a strong sense of connection. Working within a skilled team and collaborating with services across campuses and portfolios, you will contribute to seamless, student‑centred support. Description The Center for Sand Hazards and Opportunities in Resilience, Energy, and Sustainability (SHORES) and the Division of Engineering (Civil & Urban Engineering) seeks to recruit an Associate Research Scientist to work on a broader field of geotechnical engineering. Required Qualifications: A successful applicant must have a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on one or more of the following: Centrifuge experimental testing (design, execution, and data interpretation). Numerical modeling and simulation to complement physical experiments. (Preferred) Proficiency in CAD and modeling tools such as SolidWorks for experimental design and apparatus development. And possess at least three years of relevant professional experience, not including the years spent obtaining the terminal degree. Additional background in areas such as artificial intelligence applications in geotechnics, geoenvironmental engineering, geohazards risk assessment, or energy geotechnics will be considered an asset. Research Project: The successful candidate will lead a research project focused on advancing the design, testing, and analysis of resilient and sustainable geotechnical systems using centrifuge modeling. The work will bridge advanced experimental testing with complementary numerical simulation to generate insights for infrastructure and energy applications.
