The funding that supports this project has an expected end date of December 2030. The Position The Software Engineering Specialist will design, develop and maintain software systems for astronomical data acquisition, instrument control, and telemetry. They will work within project teams across the AITC, using their programming and problem-solving skills to deliver high-quality, robust, and well-documented code. They will have an initial focus on projects related to next-generation optical telescopes such as the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT). The Person To excel in this role, you will have: Progress towards postgraduate qualifications in software engineering, computer science, astronomy & astrophysics, or related disciplines, OR a relevant undergraduate degree with a minimum of four years’ relevant experience in scientific and/or aerospace software development; Experience with at least one of Python, C, or C++, and with embedded systems and Unix environments; A track record of applying best-practice software development methodologies, including version control, robust testing, and detailed documentation; The ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams, and to manage workloads across multiple projects with minimal supervision; and, Experience in astronomical instrumentation, astronomical software, and/or spaceflight hardware/software would be favourably regarded. The Area The Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre (AITC) is national facility in Canberra and part of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA). The Centre was established to support the development of the next generation of instruments for astronomy and space science. Our staff have built specialised astronomical instruments for some of the world’s largest optical telescopes; we are currently designing and building instruments to be mounted on the next generation of extremely large telescopes. The School The ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) operates Australia’s national optical observatory and has access to the world’s largest optical telescopes. We are based at the historic Mount Stromlo Observatory on the outskirts of Canberra. Description The Center for Behavioral Institutional Design, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit several postdoctoral researchers interested in exploring the origins of human behavioral diversity, developing empirically-informed models of human behavior, and designing innovative institutions and policies for promoting social welfare. C-BID offers a vibrant and stimulating research environment, with opportunities to engage in high-impact projects and collaborations. Postdoctoral researchers join an active international community of scholars and fellow postdocs and benefit from a world-class seminar series. The ideal candidate is highly ambitious, well-trained, self-motivated, hard-working, equally capable of working alone and as part of a team, and holds a PhD in economics or a related field. The position requires expertise in either experimental, empirical, or theoretical methods or, ideally, a combination of these methods.
