Our History

Dharma Master Cheng Yen carries out our mission, “Extending our love beyond those we know to those who are not related to us, and feeling other people’s pain and sorrow when they are hurt or suffering.” After dedicating her life to compassion relief work, she realized sickness is the root of agony and the mother of poverty; she visualized education as a crucial to the infrastructure of a nation. Master began organizing and building a medical college. Tzu Chi University was thus established in the eastern region of Taiwan, to raise the level of healthcare and education, while inspiring students to do good deeds and help others. The university upholds the motto of “kindness, compassion, joy and unselfish giving” and strives to nurture students into those who respect for life and care for living beings. In early 2000, the affiliated primary and secondary schools were set up and a comprehensive education from kindergarten up to the Ph.D. It will be fun to see where what the future holds.

Our goal is to prepare professionals who are committed to lifelong learning, analytical and critical thinking, and working with others; moreover, prepare those who embrace the spirit of Tzu Chi Humanities and are willing to tend to those in need.

Our Founder

“There is no one I do not love, there is no one I do not trust, and there is no one I do not forgive.” Dharma Master Cheng Yen harbors a persistent soul of beauty and good. In 1966, Master established Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation which practices the philosophy of relieving suffering, giving happiness, helping the poor, and educating the rich. For several decades, Tzu Chi Foundation has been growing. Today, Tzu Chi volunteers around the world reach out to the disaster areas, and relieve the suffering and agony of people in need. All the members carry out tasks with compassion and wisdom. They stand firmly to the grand will– that is to purify people’s heart and mind, bring peace and harmony to the society, and make the world free from disasters.

Description NYU Abu Dhabi is currently inviting applications for a full-time contract faculty position in the Interactive Media program to begin potentially as early as Fall 2026. The position is a renewable appointment based on curricular demand and performance. The Interactive Media program is a Bachelor of Arts major at NYUAD that combines art, interaction design, communications, computer science, engineering, and critique. While the program is formally housed in the University’s Arts and Humanities Division, it is a multidisciplinary major and has broad reach across the University. The mission of the program is to foster the creative use of emerging technologies for research, communication, and expression, while advancing a deep engagement with theoretical frameworks and critical discourse in Interactive Media. The program emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach that connects artistic practice with intellectual inquiry and social responsibility.  Professors of Practice have professional, industry, or public sector experience and bring those qualifications to bear in their teaching. Appointees must be experienced or highly knowledgeable in their particular fields and, where relevant, have had experience in curriculum development. They are principally engaged in teaching and are also expected to remain active in professional, research or creative activities. We are looking for a faculty member who: Possesses an understanding of the aesthetic, cultural, social, political, critical, and ethical implications of interactive media and emerging technologies, and fosters an awareness of how these technologies shape and are shaped by societal contexts through historic and contemporary perspectives. Can engage students in developing a conceptual foundation for interactive media, integrating critical texts, reflective analysis, and creative practices that combine theoretical understanding with hands-on experimentation. Can engage students with a wide range of artists, scholars and practitioners whose work has shaped the field of interactive media fostering a nuanced understanding of its evolution and future directions Can support students in cultivating a critical vocabulary to articulate and analyze interactive media concepts, theories and projects, both in writing and discussion. Can engage students in creative practice, storytelling through various forms of media, designing rich user experiences, and exploring new modes of human-computer interactions. Has demonstrated experience in exhibiting works and/or presenting \at festivals and conferences, with the ability to teach and support students in developing and showcasing their own work in similar professional contexts. The Interactive Media program is integrated into the NYUAD liberal arts experience and is interested in faculty who consider teaching an extension of their research. Inherent to the program’s values is an agility with regard to interactive media and its rapid evolution, and thus we welcome faculty who will contribute to the development of the curriculum, specifically in the area of AI. Applicants who can teach the following are encouraged to apply: Theoretical courses that explore concepts, questions, and components that encompass interactive media as it relates to creative expression and critical engagement. Foundation courses that survey various technologies including web development, sound, 2D and 3D design, XR, digital imaging, video, effects and animation, and digital fabrication. Intermediate and advanced electives within the program’s three electives’ clusters: Media and Design Thinking, Computational Media, and Physical Computing Senior capstone seminar and senior capstone project work Across the program, Interactive Media faculty focus on experimentation and production both inside and outside of the classroom. Our approach to learning relies more on collaboration rather than competition so as to cultivate an accessible environment in which playful exploration, critical analysis, risk-taking, and failure can freely occur. While our foundation classes emphasize reading and writing, they are run in a workshop-like environment facilitating active learning and encouraging discussion of concept, content, technique and impact. Engaging with students beyond class time in the program's lab space through project assistance, personal direction, and community activities is key. About the Role Maintenance Technician - Plumber 40 hours per week Monday-Friday. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Plumbing Technician to join our Estates and Facilities team. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our campus facilities by undertaking statutory and planned maintenance tasks, as well as reactive repairs and minor works. Qualifications and Skills Essential:  NVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent recognised qualification. Proven experience in plumbing maintenance, ideally within a commercial or live public sector environment. Knowledge of statutory compliance requirements for plumbing systems (e.g., Legionella testing, water regulations). Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach. A proactive, can-do attitude with a commitment to delivering high-quality work. Desirable: Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) or other facilities management software. Additional qualifications in related trades (e.g., gas safety, heating systems). A full UK driving licence and the ability to participate in an out of hours call out rota are essential. Description The Center of Astrophysics and Space Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Junior Research Scientist to work with the Mars Research Group to support scientific investigations of the Martian atmosphere and surface using data from the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM) “Hope” probe. The position contributes to ongoing research, data analysis, simulation efforts, and dissemination of scientific results from Hope observations. The funding for this position is provided by the UAE Space Agency. Applicants with additional questions about the role or the associated research project may contact the Principal Investigator Dr. Dimitra Atri (atri@nyu.edu). The successful applicant will; Analyze Emirates Mars Mission (Hope) data: Conduct detailed analysis of atmospheric and surface observations collected by the UAE’s Hope probe to support scientific goals of understanding Martian atmospheric and surface processes. Assist with analysis of additional Mars mission datasets: Examine and interpret complementary data from other Mars missions to strengthen current models and provide comparative insights that enhance research conclusions from Hope observations. Develop Machine Learning methods and run numerical simulations on NYUAD’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) system. Support preparation of scientific manuscripts and presentations: Assist in drafting reports, papers, and conference materials to communicate research findings to the global scientific community. A candidate with a Master’s degree is preferred; however, the minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science, or a related discipline. The role requires strong programming skills in Python, competency in data analysis and scientific computing, and the ability to work with large datasets. Familiarity with machine learning and planetary science concepts is highly beneficial. The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children.
