They should have excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, as well as an excellent command of written and spoken English. Preference will be given to those with experience of teaching and research in computational social science, social data analytics, population studies or related social sciences disciplines, especially good command of Python and R language for various social sciences/humanities applications. The ideal candidate will be able to assist in multiple courses such as machine learning, programming, big data analytics, statistics, social network analysis, natural language processing, and population analysis. The appointee will work on the Master of Social Sciences in the fields of Social Data Analytics, and Population and Policy Analysis programmes offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences. He/She will assist course teachers in course preparation, administration and other academic activities, grade and provide feedback on assignments and tests, invigilate examinations, provide consultative support to students outside class, and perform other duties as assigned by the Programme Directors or their delegates. The role is part of the ARC E2Crop Hub and the Centre for Atomaterials and Nanomanufacturing at RMIT University. These programs focus on developing technologies for energy-efficient systems, renewable energy integration, advanced materials, sensing, and sustainable production. The position involves supporting research that spans both fundamental studies and applied outcomes, with applications in energy systems, environmental monitoring, advanced manufacturing, and controlled environment agriculture. About You Proficiency in programming languages, including Python, C++, or Java, focusing on algorithms and data structures applied explicitly in computer vision projects Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning frameworks, including TensorFlow or PyTorch Knowledge of neural networks - especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs) Understanding of image processing techniques - including filtering, edge detection, and image segmentation- for manipulating images Familiarity with computer vision libraries, like OpenCV or Dlib, for developing and implementing vision-based models Familiar with 3D refractive imaging technique with demonstratable track record. Mathematical skills in linear algebra, calculus, and statistics for algorithm development and data analysis Evidence of research output including high quality publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field. Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government. Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required. Qualifications Mandatory: Ph.D. degree in Optical engineering, Applied Physics, or Computer Science Problem-solving abilities for determining innovative solutions to the complex problems common to computer vision engineering - such as dealing with messy background or addressing issues with object detection. Attention to detail for ensuring precision in coding and model training - and enhancing the accuracy and reliability of computer vision applications. Collaborative skills for working effectively with data scientists, software developers, and project managers. Adaptability, including a willingness to stay updated with the rapidly evolving field of computer vision and learn new techniques and technologies as they emerge. Position overview The School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics (SLLL) is seeking to enhance the successful teaching program and strong research profile of the Centre for Classical Studies through the appointment of an Associate Lecturer. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach Ancient Greek and Latin at all levels and an active research agenda in any aspect of the languages and literature of Ancient Greece and Rome (this includes language pedagogy). They will be highly motivated, collegial, and collaborative, and expected to contribute to public engagement and service in the Centre and School. They will receive dedicated career development mentoring, including guidance in applying for research funding.  The Centre for Classical Studies teaches three undergraduate majors – Ancient Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies (in translation) – covering Greek and Roman language, literature, history, art, culture, and society from the Bronze Age to the Early Middle Ages. The Centre houses the ANU Classics Museum, a collection of more than 600 artefacts from the ancient Mediterranean world, with a special focus on objects illustrating daily life.   The Centre is focused on cultivating research strengths in areas that contribute to important areas of scholarly and public debate. We currently possess expertise in ancient science and technology, memory, gender, slavery, the environment, politics and government, and object-based learning and museum ethics.
