Tsuru University was founded as the Temporary School for Teacher Training in 1953. Progressing rapidly to become the Municipal Junior College, training primary school teachers, in 1955 and a university with four-year courses by 1960, in 2009 it shifted from its previous municipal status to become a public university. While teacher training remains important, it has broadened its focus to the humanities as a whole, calling itself an "Institute of Human Experience" and aiming to produce people with specialised skills who "also have the culture of a broader education". A reorganisation in 2018 split the previous single faculty into two: letters and liberal arts. Letters incorporates primary education, Japanese, English, social sciences, comparative cultures and global education while liberal arts includes teacher education and community and society. With around 3,000 students in the relatively small city of Tsuru City, much is made of the attractions of the campus - which is described as "abundant with trees that blossom and change colours with the season" and includes a small forest heavily populated with flying squirrels - and of relations with the local community showing "a warmth that cannot be found in any other place". Tsurubunkadaigakumae station connects the university to the national rail network. A long tradition of language-based exchange programmes includes links with the University of California and the Global Education Department’s current programme where every semester, an average of 10 University of California students have the opportunity to take classes in Japanese language and culture. In exchange, Tsuru students are able to compete for the chance to study at any of the University of California campuses. In 2014 the Japanese University Accreditation Association found strengths in the enrolment process and community programmes like the Student Assistant Teacher Programme (SAT) under which students work in local schools. The university can also claim to be the nearest to Mount Fuji, one of the most popular landmarks in Japan.

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. This role supports the Future Ship and System Design (FSSD) Programme, which aims to accelerate the decarbonisation and digitalisation of Singapore’s maritime sector. The project focuses on developing planning methods to support the electrification of harbour craft fleets, using real-world operational data to derive charging demand profiles and infrastructure recommendations. As part of this work, we are seeking a Research Fellow to lead the development of a user-friendly GUI tool that will enable stakeholders to interact with planning models and visualise simulation outputs. The RF will also support increasing coordination between different projects as the number of case studies and incoming datasets continues to grow. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop a GUI tool to make model inputs/outputs accessible to end-users Collaborate with project leads and researchers to ensure technical accuracy of the interface Support integration of simulation outputs across Projects 3-1 and 3-2 Manage and process large sets of operational data for case study analysis Contribute expertise in power grid optimisation to enhance planning models Participate in stakeholder engagements and respond to evolving technical needs Job Requirements: A strong background in power systems, energy modelling, or grid optimisation Proficiency in GUI development (e.g. using Python Dash, Tkinter, or web-based frameworks) Experience working with data-driven simulation and model validation in power grids (Ph.D level is mandatory) Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment Prior exposure to maritime or transport-related electrification studies is a plus

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Future ship and system design (FSSD) program develop strategic and innovative design capabilities for maritime industry in Singapore and beyond. The work package WP2.4 in FSSD will conduct research in the areas of autonomous system dynamic modeling, simulation, testing, data and video analytics, machine learning algorithms and platform programing. The testing will be done both in lab, reservoir/sea and onboard ships. The primary responsibility of this role is to work on and deliver the project together with P2-4 team and be part of the research team in the FSSD program. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.  Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Carry out any additional work tasks assigned by the supervisor. To communicate with any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met.  Job Requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of system modeling, simulation testing for both hardware and software. Have a degree in engineering / applied physics, electrical, mechanical, marine, computer engineering or equivalent.  Key Competencies Good knowledge in system modeling, programming, simulations, data analytics. Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Show strong initiative and take ownership of work.

Job Description The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the development of Earth Observation and spatial analytics approaches applied to the analysis and monitoring of urban environmental systems. The research will integrate geomatics, remote sensing, environmental geosciences, and artificial intelligence methods to investigate soil conditions, land-use dynamics, environmental processes, and urban ecosystem functioning. This work aligns with the strategy of the Center for Urban Systems (CUS), which aims to promote sustainable, resilient, and data-driven urban development in Morocco and across Africa. The research will support the understanding and management of environmental challenges in urban areas, including land degradation, soil sealing, environmental risks, and the impacts of climate change on urban landscapes.   Main Responsibilities •    Develop Earth Observation based methodologies for monitoring urban environments, including soil conditions, land-use change, and environmental dynamics. •    Design and implement spatial analytics and geospatial modeling approaches to analyze urban environmental processes. •    Apply machine learning and geospatial data analysis techniques to large Earth Observation datasets. •    Produce high-quality scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and present research results at international conferences. •    Contribute to interdisciplinary research projects within the CUS related to urban sustainability, environmental monitoring, and urban resilience. The Counselling Service provides a range of services to enhance student wellbeing including intake and assessment, crisis and critical incident support, complex case management, short-term solution-focussed counselling, gender-based violence support, group programs, wellbeing initiatives including training and consultation to staff across the university. In collaboration with the Director Student Life, you will play a key role in ensuring that efficient and effective service delivery models are in place to support student wellbeing, meet service demands, and ensure compliance with relevant legislative, regulatory and policy obligations. This will be achieved by: Providing leadership, supervision and performance management to a team of counsellors delivering high quality programs of work and student health and wellbeing services. This includes ensuring quality and consistency of service delivery, planning adequate resourcing to meet demand, providing professional supervision and fostering and modelling a high-performance culture. Implementing a continuous improvement framework to ensure the delivery of quality and timely counselling services and other wellbeing initiatives, programs and projects that reflect best practice and the current higher education sector priorities.
