About Texas A&M University

Basic information and contact details for Texas A&M University

institution

Founded in 1876, Texas A&M University is a public research university situated in the city of College Station, Texas, in the United States.

The university first opened as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas and was the state’s inaugural public institution of higher learning.

In 1971 and 1989, it was labelled as a sea-grant and a space-grant institution, making it one of the first four universities to be awarded with the triple distinction of land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant designations.

Today, Texas A&M is one of the biggest research universities in the nation; its faculty is responsible for over $866 million in research expenditures.

Texas A&M University is also one of just 62 members of the renowned Association of American Universities (AAU) – an organisation encompassing leading public and private universities in the United States and Canada.

Home to 16 colleges and schools, the university offers 139 undergraduate degree programmes and 268 graduate degree programmes. Among its student body are approximately 5,000 international students from more than 100 different countries.

Located 90 miles northwest of Houston, and within a three-hour’s drive of Austin and Dallas, the university’s main campus houses more than 59,000 students. It also has branch campuses in Galveston, Texas, and Doha, Qatar.

Sporting the colours maroon and white, students of Texas A&M are known as ‘Aggies’. The name derives from the turn of the 20th century when students of the university were nicknamed ‘farmers’. The term Aggie was first introduced during the 1920s. In 1949, the yearbook name changed from The Longhorn to Aggieland, making Aggie the official student body nickname.

Texas A&M has a strong athletics scene and counts the American football quarterback Johnny Manziel among its former students.

The university prides itself on its friendliness. One of its oldest traditions states that everyone on campus should be greeted with a ‘Howdy!’ to ensure that no-one ever feels like a stranger.

The role Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position to work part-time on on a project funded by The Children and Young People’s Cancer Association (CCLG): Mapping current funding in young people’s cancer research against the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Priority Setting Partnership priorities. The successful post holder will be based in the School of Health Sciences, working with Susie Aldiss and Professor Faith Gibson. The James Lind Alliance Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) research priorities were published in 2018 (final report available from: https://www.jla.nihr.ac.uk/priority-setting-partnerships/teenage-and-young-adult-cancer. The aim of this PSP was to identify the research questions that need to be answered about teenage and young adult cancer, according to young people, survivors, families/carers and professionals. Our focus in this current project is on the Top 30 priorities from this PSP (https://www.jla.nihr.ac.uk/priority-setting-partnerships/teenage-and-young-adult-cancer#tab-the-top-10-priorities).  In this project, we will undertake an information gathering exercise to establish which of the 30 priorities are currently priorities for funding and/or being funded. This will involve liaising with funders of cancer research in the UK to collect their funding strategies and information on projects funded in the past five years. This will help funders to see where the gaps in funding are, avoid duplication and enable possible collaborations to ensure that all the priorities receive attention as these are the areas of research that young people, survivors, families/carers and professionals have identified as important. About you We are looking for a researcher with excellent project management and research skills, together with excellent verbal and written communication skills, who can work independently, but also work well within a team environment. The successful candidate will be required to coordinate and undertake activities including: liaising with research funders, leading on data collection and data management, analysis of data involving matching funding strategies and funded studies to the Top 30 priorities, dissemination of findings including report writing, preparing a journal publication and feedback to funders. We have already started to gather the data from the funders. Studies have shown that women and other minoritised groups are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single criteria. In the School of Health Sciences, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you are excited about this role but your experience does not align perfectly with what is stated, we encourage you to contact us to discuss. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. The post is a fixed-term post (4.5 months, 0.5 FTE). The majority of work for this project could be undertaken remotely if the post holder wishes. Senior Director, Leadership

SCHWARZMAN SCHOLARS

Schwarzman Scholars

United States, New York

institution

Schwarzman Scholars

United States, New York

Schwarzman Scholars invites nominations and applications for the position of Senior Director, Leadership (SDL). Building on more than a decade of success, the inaugural SDL will serve as the head of the Schwarzman Scholars’ leadership development pillar—one of the program’s three core pillars alongside academics and student life—at Schwarzman College, located within Tsinghua University, one of the world’s most prestigious institutions. Reporting to the Executive Director of Schwarzman Scholars (New York) and the Dean of Schwarzman College (Beijing), the SDL is a senior member of the leadership team and works in close partnership with the Chief Student Affairs Officer and faculty colleagues at Tsinghua University. Based on site in Beijing, the SDL plays a critical role in translating the program’s ambition—preparing future global leaders with a deep understanding of China—into leadership learning that is coherent, rigorous, experiential, and globally relevant. Founded in 2013 through a partnership between Stephen A. Schwarzman and Tsinghua University, Schwarzman Scholars is a fully funded, one-year master’s degree program in global affairs designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders. The program offers a dynamic curriculum grounded in the pillars of China, leadership, and global affairs, with learning opportunities in and beyond the classroom, including leadership training, senior mentors, high-level interactions with Chinese leaders and visiting speakers, career development guidance, and Deep Dive trips across China. Each year, 150 Scholars from a wide range of geographies, industries, and academic backgrounds are selected from a highly competitive global applicant pool (approximately 5% admit rate). Although now more than a decade old, Schwarzman Scholars remains a builder’s environment. Each year hosts a new cohort, faculty and international visitors cycle in and out, and the institution continues to evolve. The Senior Director, Leadership plays a central role in bringing coherence and continuity to the leadership pillar—ensuring that leadership learning is experienced not as a set of disconnected moments, but as an intentional developmental journey that integrates academic study, immersive experiences across China, and daily life in residence. Central to this work is engaging thoughtfully with global leadership traditions, helping Scholars understand leadership across cultures, political systems, and institutional contexts without privileging a single model. The SDL serves as a connector and translator between academic content and lived experience, working closely with senior staff, faculty, visiting dignitaries, and global practitioners to ensure quality, alignment, and intellectual integrity across offerings. The SDL is responsible for designing, delivering, and continuously refining a leadership development framework that integrates academic and experiential components and resonates with a globally diverse cohort of early-career professionals. The role calls for a practitioner-scholar: someone with lived leadership experience, strong facilitation skills, intellectual credibility, and the presence to engage and challenge high-performing Scholars in both formal and informal settings. The successful candidate will bring significant leadership experience in contexts that may include government, international organizations, NGOs, diplomacy, or global institutions. A traditional academic career or PhD is not required. The SDL will bring a global orientation, high emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and comfort navigating ambiguity and sensitive conversations. Experience designing and delivering experiential learning and leadership development programs is essential, as is the ability to work effectively across cultures. Prior experience in China is not required, but curiosity about the country and its role in the world is essential. As an employee of both the Stephen A. Schwarzman Education Foundation and Tsinghua University, this position comes with a competitive salary, a fully furnished apartment and meal plan at Schwarzman College, and a comprehensive benefits package. For further information, to submit recommendations, or to express interest in the role, please contact: SchwarzmanEDLL@russellreynolds.com.
