Temple University, which can trace its history back to 1884, is a research university located in Philadelphia.
It began life when a Philadelphia minister, Russell Conwell, started tutoring a group of young working men in night classes and in 1888 founded “The Temple College”. His vision for the institution was to provide educational opportunities for talented and motivated students, regardless of background or means.
In 1965, it was designated as a “state-related” institution, having previously been private.
Temple’s more than 35,000 students continue to follow its official motto – “Perseverantia Vincit”, or “Perseverance Conquers”.
The university has nine campuses – ranging across urban and suburban Philadelphia to branches in Rome and Japan. Its main campus is in the heart of the Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania and the fifth largest in the US.
Temple has traditionally been known for the high level of ethnic diversity among its student body.
Temple has a reputation as a leader in professional education, being among the largest US universities in terms of numbers educated in the combined fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, podiatry and law.
The Temple University Hospital, a 571-bed teaching hospital, is the chief clinical training site for Temple University School of Medicine.
Notable Temple alumni include comedian and actor Kevin Hart, singer Jill Scott, musicians Daryl Hall and John Oates, and former Princeton University president Shirley J. Tilghman.
The Temple “T” is the symbol of the university. The logo was designed by students in the university’s Tyler School of Art in 1983.
In honour of Temple’s origins as a night school for ambitious young people, the owl became its mascot. Hooter the Owl makes appearances at football and basketball games, as well as at alumni events.
At sports games, Temple’s most ardent fans are known as “the Cherry Crusade” – a group made up of students who paint themselves in Temple colours and lead cheers.

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Industrial Wastewater Treatment and Reuse. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Relevant international experience is of advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes. Teaching Responsibilities In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach graduate courses in Water Technology, Water Reuse and Water Management (WTE). The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduction is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes). Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and comprises lectures on the following modules: MODULE 1: Industrial Wastewater Treatment and Water Reuse (WTE, 6 ECTS) MODULE 2: Water Treatment processes (WTE, 6 ECTS) MODULE 3: Planning/Construction of (Industrial) Wastewater Treatment Plants (WTE, 6 ECTS) MODULE 4: Interdisciplinary Project in the specialization Industrial Wastewater The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may require conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects. The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor's and master's theses and mentoring Ph.D. students. Research Responsibilities As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of Industrial Wastewater Treatment, Water Reuse and Planning/Construction of (Industrial) Wastewater Treatment Plants. The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable. Administrative responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Master Program in Water Technology, Water Reuse and Water Management by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university, namely Technical University of Darmstadt. She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self-administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies. Qualification Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Industrial Wastewater Treatment and Reuse, Planning/Construction of (Industrial) Water Treatment Plants or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Professor will be a plus, as experience and understanding of the German higher education system and methodology.
