The role is responsible for delivering NCI’s mission, shaping its future direction, fostering partnerships across Australian research and innovation system, and leading the technical and professional workforce that underpins NCI’s services and impact. NCI is Australia’s one of two Tier-1 high-performance data, storage and computing organisations, providing expert services to benefit all domains of science, government and industry. NCI brings the Australian Government and the Australian research sector together through a broad collaboration involving the largest national science agencies, universities, industry and the Australian Research Council. The Director is accountable to the NCI Board for the effective stewardship of NCI’s resources, the delivery of its strategic objectives, and the performance of the organisation. The Director works closely with the Board Chair and the ANU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Infrastructure and Entities) through the Executive Panel to implement Board strategy, support effective governance, and ensure alignment between NCI’s national mission and its operational delivery. The position requires extensive engagement with government, research institutions, industry partners, international collaborators and funding agencies. The Director is expected to represent NCI and contribute thought leadership on the future of advanced computing, data infrastructure, artificial intelligence, digital research platforms and related national capability priorities. Job Responsibilities Teach and assess at least 3 courses from the following 5 core subjects: Programming with Python Embedded Systems Sensors & Actuators Measurement Technologies Analogue & Digital Electronics Develop practical teaching materials and laboratory exercises in embedded programming, sensor systems, electronics, and measurement technologies. Engage in applied research and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Collaborate with industry partners on embedded systems, IoT, smart sensing, and electronics development projects. Supervise student projects involving sensor integration, embedded control, electronic circuits, and prototype development. Job Qualifications Master’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, Automation, or a closely related field. Strong background in embedded systems, sensors, measurement technologies, and analogue/digital electronics. Familiarity with Python or object-oriented programming. Experience with microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, electronic circuits, and laboratory measurement equipment. Demonstrated excellence or clear potential in university-level teaching, especially at the undergraduate level. Experience in supervising student projects, theses, or embedded/electronics competitions is highly desirable. Practical industry experience in embedded systems, IoT, electronics, or sensor applications is an advantage.
