The Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) is a research university located in the capital city of Germany,and has roots dating back to 1879.

The TU Berlin is apart of TU9, which is a society of some of the largest and most notable German institutes of technology. This membership allows for student exchanges between many of the engineering schools.

Based in the heart of the capital, TU Berlin is a component of one of the world’s leading metropolitan cities. Few other regions can boast such highly concentrated scientific and research activities as Berlin.

The university offers a wealth of renowned programmes within the technical industry, and is made up of some seven colleges. These include: Humanities, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Process Sciences and Engineering, Electrical engineering and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems.

The large campuses cover a vast space across various different locations in Berlin. The main campus, however, is located in the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Moreover, there is a satellite campus in Egypt, which acts as a scientific and academic field office.

The campus is home of two innovation centres designated by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.

As a technology university, campus facilities are integral to success. Students, scholars as well as guests have unlimited access to its science library – which holds three million books and journals – as well as 1,300 workstations, 300 computer workstations, several meeting rooms, and multimedia workstations.

Notable alumni include Fritz Haber, a German chemist who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1918 for his invention of the Haber-Bosch process, Wernher von Braun, an aerospace engineer and space architect credited with inventing the V-2 rocket for Nazi Germany and the Saturn V for the United States, and Wolfgang Paul, a physicist who co-developed the non-magnetic quadrupole mass filter which laid the foundation for what is now called an ion trap.

Your personal sphere of influence: The members of the Faculty of Psychology engage in research and teaching focused on describing and explaining human experience and behavior, as well as changes therein. The Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology consists of approximately 100 staff members organized into eight research units with laboratories equipped with EEG, fNIRS, VR, eye-tracking, physiology, and brain stimulation systems. Your future tasks: Supporting the transition of researchers from the Vienna Cognitive Science Hub to the Faculty of Psychology as a replacement for the previous technical support provided by a data scientist. Transfer of collected scientific data, data backup/cloud-based infrastructure for collected data and study-related products. Assisting with the organization and post-processing of collected raw data for use in ongoing projects within the context of the Study Participant Platform (SPP). In particular, advanced statistical analysis methods (latent profile analysis, network analysis) and statistical software packages will be utilized. Administrative support for managing specialized software and transferring/developing analyses to open-source software. Support in presenting research on the Vienna CogSci Hub’s Transition website. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. This project focuses on federated causal inference in heterogeneous data environments, addressing the challenge of enabling trustworthy causal analysis across distributed datasets while preserving privacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end investigation of novel federated learning strategies for causal inference. The role will bridge rigorous theoretical work with hands-on algorithm design and development on real-world datasets. The core responsibility is to build and validate federated causal inference algorithms through simulations and live demonstrations. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met. Derivation of novel performance metrics for federated causal inference algorithms. Analysis of causal inference models in federated settings using synthetic and real-world datasets. Job overview  The Faculty of Educational Sciences invites applications for the position of professor specialised in research on teacher education. In this context, the field is broadly defined and covers the societal dimensions of teacher education, education systems, education policy and structural aspects. The focus is on curricula and pedagogical practices in teacher education, encompassing themes associated with learning as a teacher, professional development and the ethics of the teaching profession. The appointee will examine teacher education as a central element of teaching and learning across a range of educational settings and contexts, as well as in relation to equity, inclusion and social justice. The appointee is expected to conduct internationally recognised research on teacher education at different educational levels and in different contexts. The appointee will examine how teacher education is linked not only to learning and teaching in various contexts, but also to education systems and societal questions. In the past decades, the goals set for teacher education have expanded. Teachers graduating from the Faculty must be able to apply the results of research in the educational sciences to their work and use such research in professional development. Qualification requirements and appointment criteria Associate and assistant professors within the tenure track system must hold an applicable doctoral degree and be capable of conducting independent scholarly work, alongside the requisite teaching skills. Research relevant to the professorship’s field is considered an asset. In addition, the appointee must be capable and willing to promote their academic career through publications and other means, and develop teaching, learning and research in the field. The assessment of applicant qualifications considers not only research and teaching merits, but also success in securing external research funding and experience in domestic and international research projects.  Full professors must hold an applicable doctoral degree and possess advanced academic qualifications, experience in leading scholarly research, and evidence of success in securing external research funding and international collaboration in their research field. Applicants must be able to deliver teaching based on top-level research and supervise theses. The position also requires academic leadership skills.
