Founded in 1936, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has been promoting excellence in education and research in social sciences in India, through its teaching, research and field action programmes.

Today, TISS is one of the most vibrant universities in contemporary India, with 4 campuses in Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad. Forbes India named TISS a 'Great Place to Study' in a 2018 feature on Indian Institutes. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded a 5­-star rating to TISS for the 3rd consecutive cycle, with a leading score of 3.89 out of 4.00 (2016).

A comprehensive range of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, M.Phil. and direct Ph.D. programmes, as well as Diploma and Certificate programmes, are offered at TISS. High quality scholars and practitioners from Social, Economic, Political, Physical, Habitat, Engineering, Health, and Environmental Sciences are brought together to create interdisciplinary teaching and research programmes combined with field action to address the most critical current issues of the nation.

TISS reaches out to the wider community through its field action projects: M Ward, Tarasha, Sukoon, TANDA (Towards Advocacy, Networking and Developmental Action), Social Advancement Through Health Initiative (SATHI) and more. Many of these important field action initiatives have been successful in influencing policies on the national level.

About the Role The Lecturer will contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across the suite of Postgraduate Palliative & End of Life Care topics in the Palliative & End of Life Care Graduate Certificate, Diploma, Masters or specialist short course offerings. You will be responsible for making an independent contribution to teaching and the scholarship of teaching using innovations in teaching practices and technologies to deliver excellence in teaching. You will have the opportunity to develop teaching materials, deliver lectures/tutorials or other innovative teaching and learning strategies, coordinate topics and support assessment work. Another exciting aspect of this role is the opportunity to concurrently engage in practice in a clinical or community setting to support maintenance of contemporary practice, knowledge and skills. A snapshot of the responsibilities the successful candidate will also work across include: Create, coordinate and conduct inspiring teaching informed by approaches that enhance the student experience, with a focus on Postgraduate Palliative Care topics of the College. Contribute to the planning and evaluation of these topics, undertaking the role of Topic Coordinator as required. Make an independent contribution to the review, renewal, development and design of curricula and courses that are attractive to existing and new cohorts of students and that nurture creativity and critical-thinking skills. Provide support, academic counselling and professional advice to students concerning their studies, professional development and career opportunities. Make effective use of innovations and technologies in teaching practice. About You You are passionate about educating the next generation of palliative & end of life care professionals, evident through your longstanding track record of clinical leadership, excellence in teaching at a tertiary level, coupled with your contribution to the development, delivery and evaluation of innovative teaching and learning strategies. Your natural ability to establish and maintain relationships with staff, students and industry, highlight your effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. You hold a PhD in the relevant field or equivalent clinical experience and professional standing in Palliative & End of Life Care and maintain a current membership or eligibility with a relevant professional association. You will also demonstrate the following: An understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to Palliative and End-of-life Care. Evidence of reflective practice. Be part of the world-renowned WorldPop Group at the University of Southampton, a global top 100 university (QS World Rankings 2021). WorldPop is an award winning, multi-sectoral team of researchers, technicians and project specialists working on producing data on population distributions and characteristics at high spatial resolution.  We are seeking to recruit a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to work on the development and implementation of methods for improving small area modelled human population estimates. The successful candidate is expected to have strong quantitative skills and experience of working with large gridded geospatial datasets. They will focus on designing approaches to process and utilise such datasets in population modelling and integrate them into WorldPop’s workflows to construct high resolution national, regional and global demographic estimates. They will explore, test and validate novel statistical and AI methods, working with partners from governments and UN agencies to big tech and satellite imagery companies. These may include derived datasets such as building footprints, geo-embeddings, or datasets derived from mobile phones and social media. Work will also involve exploration of urban characteristics and dynamics. The post holder will be expected to work within a team of researchers and partner organizations to contribute to the development and implementation of methods and impactful applications of the results. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to and lead projects from across the WorldPop portfolio. They will also lead and contribute to the preparation of high-quality publications and will also be supported to present outputs to stakeholders and at national and international conferences. Further, the individual will contribute to external engagement across the WorldPop group, providing opportunities to work with UN agencies, governments and researchers around the world.
