About Tashkent State University of Economics

Tashkent State University of Economics, popularly known as the "University of Leaders", is the main higher educational institution in the republic in terms of economics. It was founded on August 13, 1931, as the Central Asian Institute of Finance and Economics. In accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in 1991, the status of the Tashkent Institute of National Economy was renamed the Tashkent State University of Economics.

The mission of the university is to train the managerial and intellectual elite who form the fundamental scientific foundations of the development of the global and Uzbek economy and are able to ensure its global competitiveness. Modernization of the educational system and the creation of modern infrastructure for the educational process has been a constant focus of the University management. The university is located in the center of Tashkent city. The total area of the university is 78981.7 square meters. In addition, the university has a recreation area for teachers and students and an experimental training center outside the city. The educational space of the university fully meets the set requirements, the educational halls are fully equipped with modern multimedia systems of the 4th generation. Within the framework of the "Green Campus" concept, systematic work is carried out to continuously enrich the flora and fauna of the university territory.

During its 90-year history, it has grown from a highly specialized "School of Economics" to a prestigious university capable of carrying out the most complex educational and research tasks within its disciplines. As of 2023, there are 11 faculties and 35 departments under the jurisdiction of these faculties. The university has 43 departments that specialize in performing specific functional tasks of scientific and academic activities. The university has 14 centers specializing in conducting scientific research on fundamental issues of the global and Uzbek economy. The Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Accounting and Audit, Faculty of International Tourism, Faculty of Corporate Governance, and Faculty of Digital Economics are the biggest among the rest of the faculties. The university is training practical and scientific personnel in 35 full-time bachelor's courses, 3 remote bachelor's courses, 24 part-time bachelor's courses, and 37 master's specialties belonging to the "Social science and management" and "Art and Humanities" subject blocks. Moreover, the Tashkent State University of Economics owns both national and international branches: Samarkand branch, Turtkul faculty of TSUE, 2 colleges in Namangan and Jizzakh regions, whilst international branches are shining in Saint-Petersburg and Indonesia University of Education.   

There are 7 international joint degree programs, including the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Missouri State University, Indonesia University of Education (UPI), and Austrian IMC University of Applied Science Krems. Most importantly, Tashkent State University of Economics is at the initial stage of academic partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The strategic management system of the Tashkent State University of Economics is based on the "6i model" in accordance with the experiences of advanced higher education institutions of the world. In addition, in 2022, the "New Climate Innovations" center was established in order to further develop scientific research work on current issues of the global and national economy. The head of the center Rae Kwon Chung, the Nobel laureate in 2007, is empowering the future leaders of the nation. Bachelor's and master's degrees are recognized by international organizations such as EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) step-by-step implementation of accreditation based on the system of organizations.

The university has a medium-term strategic plan for the development of academic, research and innovation activities for 2022-2026. The main strategic goal of TSUE’s activities for 2022-2026 is to become a driving scientific institution in ensuring the global competitiveness of the country's national economy, a multicultural international educational institution based on the system of training national and international students with the highest intellectual potential. It is based on the development trend in the format of the "University 4.0" model, which incorporates the elements of the 6 main goals, which are interrelated, such as inclusiveness. The university, based on the new format of the "University 4.0" model, requires not only educational and scientific research activities, but also the main integrator function in the internal processes of the innovation ecosystem.

Creating favorable conditions for the development of start-up projects of talented young people and researchers at the university, helping students to organize innovative activities, helping to create innovative works in the field of economy, software product development, implementation and technical support, organizing seminars and trainings, innovative "Digital Economy" incubation center is operating at the university in cooperation with IT-PARK in the direction of supporting business ideas. "Digital Economy" incubation center organizes meetings with well-known entrepreneurs and trackers in order to effectively organize measures to develop effective projects and attract investors.

Among the university alumni, Islam Karimov, the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, can be elicited with pride. Also, the first chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, deputies of the Legislative Chamber, 5 deputy prime ministers, ministers and deputy ministers of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, former and current chairmen of the Central Bank, chairmen of commercial banks, heads of more than 40 diplomatic agencies, regional and city governors.

There are 160 foreign partner universities cooperating in both academic and scientific spheres. A multinational knowledge hub, the TSUE, hosts a total of 1,391 students from 17 countries in full-time master's and bachelor's programs, summer and winter school programs, and international student exchange programs. The university conducts scientific research on the basis of grants within the framework of international programs such as Erasmus+ and Fulbright.
