Saint John Fisher College is a private, Catholic college founded in the city of Rochester, New York state in 1948. The college was originally set up by members of the Basilian Fathers (a community of priests and laypeople who focus on education and evangelization) with the help of the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester, James E. Kearney. The college was run by the church until 1968 when it became an independent institution. The first women were enrolled in 1971.

Today Saint John Fisher is a busy private liberal arts college in the Catholic tradition of higher education. The college is home to almost 4,000 students studying a wide range of subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The college offers in the region of 35 undergraduate majors with a variety of masters and doctoral programs also available. The college’s academic programs are divided up into five schools: the School of Arts and Sciences, the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education, the School of Business, Wegmans School of Pharmacy and Wegmans School of Nursing.

The college is home to 23 varsity teams and the 2,500 seat Growney Stadium hosts Fisher’s football, field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse teams. The college campus extends over wooded areas and pleasant lawns to the south-east of the city of Rochester. The college’s academic and residential buildings are all on the campus as well as dining facilities, a library and the college chapel. There are also numerous sporting facilities including American football and football stadiums, a baseball field and softball square.

The successful candidate will spearhead the development of novel oligonucleotide-based therapies targeting metabolic and mitochondrial dysfunction in optic nerve diseases, such as glaucoma and inherited mitochondrial disorders. This position involves advancing candidate RNA therapeutic platforms and integrating them into the Optic Nerve Research Collaborative Australia (ORCA), a national initiative focused on breakthroughs in optic nerve disease research. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of innovation in RNA technology and experience in translating novel platforms into preclinical or clinical programs. An interest in entrepreneurship and commercialization is highly desirable, as the role offers opportunities for involvement in biotech start-ups and spin-off ventures. Based at the Save Sight Institute, Camperdown Campus, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney, the candidate is expected to actively contribute to the broader medical research community at USyd, fostering collaboration and mentorship. This is a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of RNA therapeutics in ophthalmology, with a direct impact on the treatment of optic nerve diseases. The Department was ranked 24th in the world in Sociology in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. The Department offers a range of innovative and engaging taught programmes, including undergraduate major/minor programmes in Sociology, Criminology, and Media & Cultural Studies. In addition to research postgraduate degrees, it also offers three taught postgraduate programmes in Sociology, Criminology, and Media, Culture and Creative Cities. HKU Research Hub of Population Studies Launched by the Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong, the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies aims to provide an understanding of local, national, regional, and international demographic patterns, encompassing six research areas: Ageing, Children and Family, Gender and Sexuality, Health and Mortality, Population and Development, and Urbanisation and Migration. The Hub focuses on multi-disciplinary research concerning various population-related issues and public policy, addressing the global needs for theoretical, methodological, and practical advancements in population and health research. The Hub aims to strengthen theoretical, methodological, and policy-relevant research in population and health studies. It serves as a University-wide platform for collaboration among population scientists, promotes the dissemination of cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, and facilitates dialogue between academia, policymakers, and the wider community on evidence-based population policies. The Hub also supports the development of professional training in Population Studies, including demography and data analysis. What We Offer A competitive remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
