Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments About the role The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer is the operational and partnership lead for the Inkfish EMBRACE (Enhanced Maternal and Baby Results with AI-supported Care and Empowerment) programme, setting up and managing the operations across the multi-partner, multiple country consortium. The post holder is required to be a highly experienced, strategic leader with expertise in artificial intelligence in the context of personalised health. EMBRACE is a visionary, multicomponent international research programme, the first of its kind in the world, supported by Inkfish with £35M core funds over six years, starting in April 2025. It is a global study of 60,000 participants, including 20,000 mothers, 20,000 infants and up to 20,000 partners. It brings together world-leading clinician scientists across six distinguished Healthcare organisations, world-leading AI & technology companies, together with premier biotech companies, with the overarching aim to fast-track major scientific breakthroughs, revolutionise maternal and early childhood health through precision-personalised interventions, powered by a groundbreaking symbiosis of cutting-edge AI combined with human support. The post holder is responsible for establishing and managing the EMBRACE programme working closely with the study Director and lead PI, Professor Josip Car (King’s College London), Senior Advisors, other members of the research leadership team and Industry partner organisations. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will manage all parties within the global consortium and key stakeholders to set up and maintain an operational framework that meets the regulatory requirements of each partner country and organisation to meet EMBRACE’s ambitious goals. They will oversee day-to-day execution of decisions and contracts, including the oversight of the research teams and business operations. This includes the consortium’s financial management, project management – meeting key milestones, writing and presenting reports, establishing and overseeing the programme’s governance, ethical and regulatory compliance, and maintaining internal and external relationships including with industry partners, funders and collaborators. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will provide strategic leadership, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure delivery of high-impact research outcomes. This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 01/10/2030. Please note that you will be expected to come into the office a minimum of 4 days a week. The role You will be responsible for the development and coordination of the Rowing programme at Surrey Sports Park, for the University of Surrey. You will oversea all aspects of rowing delivery: High Performance, Senior, and Development Squads. You will drive programmes focusing on participation and development, as well as coach and manage the performance squads representing Team Surrey in British University College Sport (BUCS) and/or local and national competitions. You will manage the rowing coaches and work with other internal departments (e.g. Campus and ClubSport teams) to ensure engaging and effective rowing delivery. Supporting the Performance Sport Officer, you will also responsible for the day-to-day delivery elements of the partnership with Molesey Rowing Club. You are expected to apply your technical and practical knowledge of rowing in order to provide advice and coaching to further develop the sport. You will manage your own work to ensure that key deadlines and objectives are met, with supervisory approval.  You will actively contribute to the success of Team Surrey and improving the experience of Surrey students. About us Dementia is one of the greatest health challenge of our century. To date there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it. The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap. We are a globally leading multidisciplinary research institute of 850 staff investigating the spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders causing dementia, with laboratory-based research groups located at University College London, the University of Cambridge, Cardiff University, Edinburgh University, Imperial College London, and King’s College London. Researchers at the UK DRI at King’s use innovative approaches to explore the biological mechanisms involved in neurodegenerative diseases. Their goal is to defeat dementia by uncovering vital new knowledge that will lead to the design of smarter diagnostics and effective treatments. The team aim to understand the fundamental biological processes involved in dementia at a molecular level – and to use that knowledge to design new ways to diagnose and treat disease more precisely. About the role A new position is available for a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate in the Basic and Clinical Neuroscience research group led Professor Marc-David Ruepp. The successful candidate will support translational projects aimed at correcting neurodegenerative phenotypes , with a particular emphasis on RNA-mediated splicing correction. Professor Ruepp’s group aims to uncover how RNA dysmetabolism contributes to neurodegeneration, with a focus on elucidating the molecular determinants of FUS toxicity in ALS, identifying translational therapeutic targets, and developing innovative strategies to advance these findings toward clinical application. Some of the key skills involved include; Molecular cloning and generation of RNA-based splicing modulators Performing cell-based screens to assess efficiency of regulators using high-throughput imaging Conducting high quality research under the supervision of Marc-David Ruepp, and in collaboration with other members of the Ruepp lab. Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the PI. To present findings in regular group meetings to the PI and colleagues. Work in a collaborative manner, sharing knowledge and expertise within the team, department and with collaborators. This is a full-time post (35 hours per week) funded for an 18-month duration with the possibility of further extension. About you To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria PhD awarded in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or related discipline Experience in mammalian cell and human iPSC culture alongside CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing in iPSCs Experience in RNA-mediated splicing modulation Experience in molecular cloning, immunofluorescence and western blotting Experience in nucleic acid isolation, PCR and qPCR, including experimental design, optimization, and data analysis Experience in lentiviral vector production Experience in neuronal differentiation of human iPSCs Willingness to work as part of a team and to be open-minded and cooperative. About us The King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office (KHP-CTO) is a collaboration between King’s College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Established to provide a single interface for those wishing to conduct clinical research within the partner organisations, and to ensure that there are common, efficient processes for the set up and administration of clinical trials. About the role To act as a single point of contact for a large and diverse portfolio of commercial clinical trials in set up across the Partner Organisations. To ensure feasibility assessments are conducted robustly to King’s Health Partner’s SOPs and to develop systems and processes to increase speed and efficiency of the feasibility process. To set up new commercial trials, including the review of contractual and financial terms and assessing, arranging and confirming local capacity and capability Responsible for providing an effective, high quality, timely and efficient contractual and financial/budgetary service to investigators, companies and contract research organisations seeking to conduct commercial trials in any of the Partner Organisations To review and negotiate commercial trial budgets and contracts in accordance with the National Contract Value Review process and ensure accurate completion To review and negotiate commercial trial budgets for contract amendments in accordance the National Contract Value Review process.
