In 1965 the Sichuan University of Science and Engineering was established as the Sichuan branch of the East China Institute of Chemical Technology.
SUSE took on its current form with the incorporation of two teacher-training institutions in 2013 and then adopted its current name along with full university status in 2018.
It is a public university based in the city of Zigong. There are five campuses, including one in Yibin City, around 50 miles away.
Around 20,000 students are distributed across departments of engineering, science, management, economics, law, literature, arts, education and history. Most courses are taught in Chinese, with a few English options such as a masters in international business in trade.
The university also offers short courses in specialisms such as Chinese painting, calligraphy and language.
