Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a Pūkenga/Pūkenga Matua | Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Terrestrial Vertebrate Biology to join Te Kura Mātauranga Koiora - School of Biological Sciences on a permanent, full-time basis. We are seeking an outstanding researcher and educator to join our Ecology and Biodiversity programme. The successful candidate will develop an externally funded research programme with strategic relevance to Aotearoa New Zealand. Areas of particular interest include terrestrial vertebrate biology, especially research relating to herpetofauna and/or introduced terrestrial mammals. Research with applications in conservation biology, wildlife management, pest species ecology, biodiversity monitoring, restoration ecology, or related fields is highly desirable. The appointee will contribute to our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, including field-based courses, and will supervise postgraduate students. Familiarity with, or a willingness to develop capability in, tikanga Māori and mātauranga Māori as they relate to ecological research and teaching is expected. The successful candidate will be expected to build productive collaborations with iwi, government agencies, conservation organisations, and other stakeholders, while contributing to the School’s research and teaching excellence. Key responsibilities: Deliver excellent teaching and contribute to course coordination across undergraduate and postgraduate Ecology and Biodiversity programmes, including field-based teaching. Establish and develop an externally funded research programme, including attracting research funding, supervising postgraduate students, and publishing high-quality research outputs. Contribute to the strategic goals of Te Kura Mātauranga Koiora - School of Biological Sciences, including enhancing student success, strengthening research impact, and supporting an inclusive and diverse academic environment. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with iwi, government agencies, NGOs, industry partners, and the wider ecological and conservation community. You will be an enthusiastic and collegial academic who is excited by the opportunity to contribute to a thriving Ecology and Biodiversity programme while developing a research programme that addresses important ecological challenges facing Aotearoa New Zealand. Key requirements: A PhD in Ecology, Conservation Biology, Zoology, Evolutionary Biology, Wildlife Biology, or a related discipline. Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including field-based teaching. Evidence of, or potential for, attracting external-research funding and developing productive research collaborations. LifeLab is a unique research-based educational project created by the University of Southampton in collaboration with the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and University Hospital Southampton. About the Role The Senior Research Dissemination Fellow will support our ongoing work by identifying and optimising the research and dissemination outputs of LifeLab. You will be required to work proactively across the team to understand the range and depth of work undertaken in LifeLab and wider Specialist Centre for Public Health and to prepare quality research outputs for dissemination.  You will have knowledge and experience of research within the public health sector, and to be able to work collaboratively to project delivery dates. You will also be an excellent communicator and able to build relationships both internally and externally. This post is offered on a fixed term (24 months) basis in the School of Healthcare Enterprise & Innovation. As a school we operate hybrid working with an expected minimum of 20% in office. Senior Research Fellow in Responsible AI Translation

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position with Responsible AI UK (RAi UK), based at the University of Southampton. The post is full-time for 20 months, with potential for extension. The post holder will not be required to be based at Southampton but must be able to meet in person with the team once a week. You will join Responsible AI UK, a £31 million UKRI-funded national programme spanning 28 UK universities and over 150 partner organisations across academia, industry, government and civil society. RAi UK is one of the largest responsible AI research programmes in the UK, working at the interface of interdisciplinary research, policy and practice. You will work alongside the CEO, Professor Sarvapali (Gopal) Ramchurn, and the RAi UK leadership team. About the role This is an opportunity for an experienced postdoctoral researcher to work at the heart of one of the UK’s largest responsible AI programmes. The post holder will translate technical outputs from across the RAi UK portfolio and the wider Responsible AI landscape into clear, evidence-based policy advice for government, industry and the public. The research will focus on: Agentic AI systems and their governance Physical AI and its integration with real-world systems Measurement and evaluation of agentic AI performance The implications of these technologies for government, industry and the wider public The post holder will design and convene roundtables, workshops and events with senior stakeholders across UK government, regulators, industry, civil society and international partners. They will synthesise findings into white papers, policy briefings and consultation responses, and will represent RAi UK at national and international policy fora. The role may require travel across the UK and internationally. To be successful you will have: A PhD (or equivalent professional experience) in a discipline relevant to responsible AI, including computer science, AI, data science, science and technology studies, law, public policy, ethics, sociology, or political science Demonstrable experience translating technical research into policy-relevant outputs such as white papers, briefings, consultation responses or evidence submissions A strong understanding of contemporary debates in AI governance, evaluation, assurance, agentic AI and/or physical AI Experience designing and convening events or roundtables with senior stakeholders from government, industry and/or civil society Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences Willingness and ability to travel across the UK and internationally to represent RAi UK This post offers significant exposure to senior policymakers, opportunities for visible thought leadership, and the chance to shape national and international conversations on the responsible governance of agentic and physical AI.
