Seisa Dohto University was founded as Dohto University in Monbetsu City in Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s main islands. It was established in 1978. The university was renamed as as Seisa Dohto University in 2017 followed its connection with the SEISA Group, which was founded in 1972 with the motto "Live Together, Grow Together". The university has run a distance-learning university with a single faculty in life network science since 2004. The university is a relatively small one, with less than 1,000 students which aims to promote closeness between staff and students. Its underlying philosophy is SEISA’s concept of Kyosei Rikai Kyoiku, or "emphatic understanding education". There are three faculties – social welfare, fine arts (which incorporates departments of design, architecture and management) and a school of Japanese studies for foreign students. The campus is well equipped with many facilities including a gymnasium, sports training centre, multimedia centre, language laboratory, a plastic arts and drawing room, a student cafeteria, a convenience store, an auditorium, library, a student hall, a sculpture room, wood working crafting room, pottery crafting room and architectual experiment practicum room. The university does not have its own dormitories, however, the Student Affairs Office and Center for International Relations produces a list of accommodation around the city that students can stay in. There are ample of options for apartments, student unions and lodgings with meal services and many are chosen with consideration of suitable commuting conveniences, costs and living environment for each student. There is a focus on sports, business and regional development reflected in majors in sports management, business creation and community design.

The role We are looking for a full-time researcher for a fixed term contract running until 31st March 2027. This post is for an embedded researcher who will be based at the University of Surrey (Environmental Psychology Research Group) and will work with, and for, the Surrey County Council (SCC) Safer Travel Team and the Surrey HDRC2 Team (Health Determinants Research Collaboration). The post’s focus will centre on a programme of work (please see accompanying details) consisting of separate projects that together share the aim of increasing Active Travel To School (ATTS1) amongst Surrey’s schools. The programme of work will commence with supporting Phase Two of the “Understanding Effectiveness & Encouraging Excellence in School Travel Planning” project, following the successful completion of Phase One. The programme of work will continue with the completion of a four-year longitudinal study that identifies school travel behaviours and their underlying motivations – the “SCC Annual School Travel Survey”. Other work includes further piloting of the STEP Tool (School Travel Effectiveness of Planning) developed in Phase One, the dissemination of findings from the SCC Annual School Travel Survey, and an exploratory audit of data collection across Surrey’s schools that employ “Hands Up Surveys” as a means of measuring changes in school travel. About you You must have a degree (MSc/PhD) and experience/interest in research focusing on understanding and changing behaviour. Experience in working in an applied research settings is highly desirable. Good communication and organisation skills are key, alongside adaptable project management skills. Skills and experience of working with quantitative survey data is important, and knowledge of qualitative methods an advantage. You will be working with the SCC teams at Surrey to support the analysis of existing data, to develop and project manage additional research, to analyse new data, and to report and present findings to a wide audience. This work has already been presented at a national convention in 2025 and the ambition is to further disseminate findings via future conference and publication activity. You will be based at the EPRG at Surrey but will work closely with SCC teams. You will be working on the various project activities for a period running to 31st March 2027 (full time). The Faculty of Law invites applications for a fixed term employment contract for a postdoctoral researcher from 01.08.2026 to 31.7.2028, funded by the Research Council of Finland. The position is a fixed-term contract for 2 years, with a possibility for a 1-year extension. The postdoctoral researcher will develop their own research in relation to international law and transformation in the global economy, associated with Dr. René Urueña’s professorship in international law. This work will include: developing single-authored peer-reviewed journal articles and co-authoring and/or editing academic work with the project PI and collaborators undertaking research in law, history, science and technology studies, and other relevant disciplines organizing and participating in international conference panels participating in the organization of workshops and seminars/conferences public outreach activities teaching/co-teaching and supervision of undergraduate students contributing to the research community within the Faculty of Law Requirements for the position and assessment of qualifications According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, an appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher shall hold a relevant doctoral degree and have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work as well as the teaching skills necessary for the position. PhD diploma is to be acquired by the first day of employment. The working language is English. The period following the completion of doctoral degree must not exceed five years, excluding family leave and equivalent periods of absence. To fulfil the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to live in Helsinki, be physically present on a regular basis and participate actively in the research and teaching activities of the research project. Postdoctoral researchers have a teaching load of about 10%, corresponding roughly with one course of teaching. In evaluating applications, we will particularly consider: ability to work and develop research ideas both independently and collaboratively knowledge of and experience in research related to critical approaches to international law, international economic law, law and infrastructure, or global supply chains. interest in and experience of public engagement English language skills, while Finnish and Swedish are considered an asset. What we offer The salary for the position will be based on level 5 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The annual gross salary is approx. €46,000 - €48,000. There will be a six-month trial period for the position.
