Your personal sphere of influence: As a Predoctoral University Assistant, you work as a member of the team led by Professor Peter Schweitzer at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology. The research focuses is on the topics of climate change, structural transformation and the Alpine region. We are looking for a person with relevant research interest (dissertation topic), first research and publication experience and excellent language skills in German and English (both at least C1 level) As part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology not only brings together renowned scientists and students, but also different research areas, a variety of ethnographic methods, a large number of outstanding research projects and appreciative collegial exchange. The employment is limited to 15 months; an extension is not possible. This is a part-time position; working time is 30 hours per week. Your future tasks: You actively participate in research and teaching which means: You actively contribute to interdisciplinary research focusing on the topics of climate change, structural transformation and the Alpine region. You work on the finalization of your dissertation. You teach courses independently in accordance with the scope of the collective bargaining agreement. You supervise your students. You are involved in evaluation measures and quality assurance. You take on administrative tasks in both research and teaching. B1 lit. b (postdoc) Reference no.: 5781 The new Core Facility NexusSoSci is being established at the Faculty of Social Sciences. NexusSoSci provides the infrastructural and technical foundations for a central service and competence center for social science research. It brings together qualitative and quantitative methodological expertise in data collection, data preparation, and data analysis. Senior scientists and the coordinator play a key role in developing the digital, material, and spatial infrastructures that supports research projects, training, and networking activities. The positions will initially be based at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences and may be transferred to a subunit following a positive evaluation. We intend to fill the position of Senior Scientist for the Register Data Lab from 01 July 2026 onwards, but latest by 15 October 2026. Your personal sphere of play: The Register Data Lab within NexusSoSci, creates the infrastructural, methodological and technical foundations for the use of Austrian register data in social science research. Its aim is to build a central scientific service and competence centre for register-based social research. The Senior Scientist will make a substantial contribution to this objective through (1) the development of standardised data modules, (2) scientific consulting in the planning of research projects, and (3) training and networking activities.
