Founded in 1891, Seattle University is a private, coeducational, Jesuit Catholic university located on a 50-acre campus in the Capitol Hill neighbourhood of Seattle, in Washington State.

The school initially served as a high school and a college and in 1931 it became coeducational, admitting women for the first time. It became known as Seattle University in 1948.

There are eight academic colleges and schools at Seattle University, that between them offer 64 undergraduate programs, 28 graduate programs and 22 graduate certificates. Among the schools are the Albers School of Business and Economics, which regularly features among the best business schools in the western United States, and the College of Arts and Sciences which is the largest undergraduate and graduate college.

The university’s downtown campus contains a number of notable features and buildings, including the award-winning Chapel of St. Ignatius, the Centennial Fountain, and the historic Piggot Hall.

The Seattle University sports teams are known as the Redhawks and have a rich history of sporting triumphs. They are among a handful of teams to have beaten the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters, and have produced basketball stars including Elgin Baylor, Eddie Miles, Clint Richardson and Tom Workman. 

The university’s tennis teams have also had great success over the years, thanks to the likes of Janet Hopps Adkisson and Tom Gorman’s university triumphs.

Other notable former students include Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Major William D. Swenson, who was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2013, and founder of Emaar Properties Mohamed Alabbar.

Strong quantitative research skills within sociology or social sciences, demonstrated through relevant experience or coursework. Proficiency in statistical software such as Stata, R, or other relevant tools to facilitate data analysis and interpretation. Experience or interest in conducting research on topics related to child and youth development, family studies, education, and physical and psychological health disparities. Experience in data collection projects is preferred. The School of Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow in Phanerozoic Ocean Biogeochemistry and Earth System Evolution. The successful applicant will work on the development and application of the cGENIE Earth system model for the NERC Pushing the Frontiers project “Determining extinction correlates on geological timescales”, under the supervision of institutional lead Dr. Richard Stockey and in collaboration with team members at the University of Oxford (Project Lead Prof. Erin Saupe) and the University of Leeds (Project Co-Lead Prof. Ben Mills). The post holder will specifically work to generate a series of reconstructive models of 3D ocean biogeochemistry through the Phanerozoic (last ~540 million years). A key focus of this role is to explore uncertainty in three-dimensional ocean biogeochemistry over this time interval and its implications for geochemical proxy records and marine ecosystems. This is a relatively short-term, specialist Earth system modelling position (15-month duration). The post holder is therefore expected to have prior experience in intermediate complexity Earth system modelling and experience integrating key components of Earth system evolution on these timescales, or a strong track record in developing and deploying new skills in computational Earth Science research. The successful candidate will either hold, or be nearing completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil and will have appropriate research experience alongside strong subject-specific expertise. They should be capable of working independently within established research programmes, managing their own research activities and contributing to academic publications. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to present research ideas and findings clearly, as well as representing the research group effectively in meetings and collaborative discussions.

In this position, you will work at the intersection of quantum computing, computational biology, genomics, and materials science. Your role and goals  Your primary task as a postdoctoral researcher is to conduct research in quantum algorithms and quantum information. You are expected to take an active role in advancing the MQS group’s research projects.
