A proven track record of integrating generative AI tools into digital content creation and social media marketing is highly preferred. The team comprises pre- and post-award services, contracting and consultancy support. Support includes tailored financial and contractual advice and management to all researchers at Durham, from planning, costing, and pricing the initial proposal to ensuring that contracts and agreements are negotiated effectively and efficiently, to ensuring robust financial management and compliance of awarded projects. Research Operations works alongside the various teams which make up the Research and Innovation Services and in partnership with Professional Support colleagues across the University to help facilitate research-related planning, reporting and development and to meet the needs of both the individual researcher and the wider institution. As a Pre Award Research Manager within the pre-award team, you will play a key role in supporting and developing externally funded research grant activity by providing high quality support and advice to academic staff in the preparation, submission and contractual negotiation of research grants and awards. You will join an enthusiastic and supportive team of Pre Award Research Managers based in the central office but will also be expected to spend time in the academic departments you support, to provide a key link role between the academic community and RIS. The Pre Award Research Manager will be a key point of contact for an academic wishing to apply for external research funding and will provide support and expert advice in a number of essential activities including: Project managing the submission process of the bid (including responsibility for budget development and seeking internal approvals). Working closely with the Research Development team on strategic funding opportunities. Lay reviewing applications for regulatory and funder compliance. Ensuring timely acceptance of successful awards including contract negotiation and ensuring all ethical and due diligence checks are completed. Working closely with post-award and contracting colleagues to ensure accurate project information is captured and shared in a central project management system. Delivering training and information events. It is essential that the Pre Award Research Manager is highly organised, pays close attention to detail, and has a pro-active approach to problem-solving. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research aimed at developing innovative strategies for reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices. The specific research areas that post-doctoral researchers will explore include, not limited to: Pyrolysis, gasification, hydrothermal carbonation, hydrothermal liquefaction, Fisher-Tropsh, etc. CO2 capture methods (Chemical and calcium looping, absorption, adsorption, membrane, cryogenic, molten salt, etc.) CO2 utilization & conversion to high-value chemicals (e.g., electro/photo chemical CO2 reduction; catalytic chemical conversion; biological; etc.) CO2 mineralization of industrial waste ACER is actively engaged in cutting-edge research and development initiatives aimed at advancing innovation in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), decarbonization, and carbon-negative pathways. Position Requirements The primary roles of the chosen candidates are to contribute to the expansion of research programs concerning Carbon Negative, Capture, Utilization, and Sequestration by demonstrating at least some of the following competencies. Experimental development, testing, and demonstration of novel CCUS technologies Process simulation, cost, life cycle, and social assessment of CCUS value chains Reactor design, optimization, and sizing using phenomenological and/or CFD methods DFT and Molecular modelling linked to CCUS Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to interpret and analyze simulation and/or experimental results. Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams that involve experimentalists and modelers Criteria of the candidates: PhD in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related disciplines, with focus on reactor and process design and development. Strong motivation and passion for research in the field of CCUS/decarbonization/Carbon management. Proven ability to perform multidisciplinary research and contribute to funded research programs. Proven ability to the planning, sourcing, and development of new initiatives and ongoing research activities. Proven ability to identify and fulfill the academic writing requirements for developing proposals, reports, and scientific publications. Demonstrated understanding of operational requirements for a successful research project and managing time and resources. Good English communication skills, both verbal and written, are important. Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
