Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences is located in the Sabzevar district of Razavi Khorasan province in north-eastern Iran, a predominantly agricultural area. It is the oldest higher education institution in Sabzevar City, having started life as a School of Nursing and Midwifery affiliated to Mashhad University in 1986.
It attained independence from Mashhad in 1995, with eight faculty members delivering a four-year degree in nursing along with a two-year associate-level qualification in midwifery. It began admitting students to its seven-year course in medicine in 2008, and currently has in the region of 2,000 students distributed across Schools of Medicine, Health Sciences, Paramedical Science, Nursing and Midwifery and the Jovein School of Nursing.
Students have access to the public health framework of the district incorporating eight hospitals – Shahed Beheshti, Heshmatiyeh, Mohini, Martyrs, Mohammed Vaseyi, Qamar Ban, Hashem Joven and Vali-e-Asr - as well as the health networks of Jovein, Khoshab, Davarzan, Shashtamed and Joghatai.
It publishes an open access double-blind peer reviewed Journal of Medical Sciences.
SUMS also holds a regular Festival of Creative Ideas.

Dean of Research The Dean of Research is a new senior leadership position within the Sharjah Education Academy. The purpose of the position is to provide leadership to shape and guide SEA’s research strategy.
