About Romblon State University

Basic information and contact details for Romblon State University

Romblon State University (RSU) is a public higher education institution in the Philippines located in Odiongan, Romblon, with a network of nine campuses across the province’s islands.

It traces its origins back to 1915 as the Odiongan Farm School and developed through several stages including Odiongan Rural High School, Odiongan High School, Romblon National Agricultural School and Romblon Agricultural College before becoming Romblon State College and gaining university status in 2009.

Located across the island province of Romblon, the university operates campuses in Odiongan, Romblon, San Agustin, San Andres, Santa Maria, Santa Fe, Cajidiocan, San Fernando and Calatrava.

Students study across a broad range of programmes including agriculture, forestry, fisheries, engineering and technology, business and accountancy, education, arts and sciences, criminology, information technology, hospitality management and environmental sciences. The university also offers postgraduate study through master’s and doctoral programmes in areas such as educational leadership, science education, criminology, information technology, agriculture and public administration.

RSU is particularly known for agriculture, fisheries and environmental sciences, reflecting its historical roots and its ongoing role in supporting rural and island based livelihoods. Many programmes are designed with practical components, including fieldwork, laboratory sessions and community based learning, which are especially relevant for students aiming to work in local industries or public service in the region.

The university plays a significant role in regional development in Romblon through research and extension programmes. These initiatives often focus on agriculture, fisheries, education and environmental sustainability, with the aim of addressing local needs and improving community resilience across the islands.

Student life is shaped by a geographically dispersed campus system. While facilities vary by campus, students typically engage in a mix of classroom learning, practical training and community engagement depending on their course. Opportunities for involvement include academic organisations, campus activities and development programmes that link study to real world application.
