Established in 1810, the Rennes 2 University (Université Rennes 2, UR2) is in Upper Brittany, France and is one of four in the Academy region of Rennes. It is Western France’s largest research and higher learning institution in arts, literature, languages, social sciences and humanities, with approximately 20,000 students and 600 professors. It has five faculties: languages, social sciences, human sciences, art, literature and communication and sports and physical education and teaches some 21 modern languages at undergraduate and graduate level. Its international relations are an integral part of the university and it has longstanding links with higher education institutions across all five continents. It offers 134 different diplomas for full-time, part-time or distance learning students. The main campus is in the northwest section of Rennes, in the Villejean neighbourhood, which is close to the other campus, at La Harpe. The Villejean campus has its own VAL subway station, which places the university just five minutes away from the centre of the city. Rennes 2 University has over 50 institutions for extra-curricular activities, which means it has the highest rate of organisations among any French university. These include the radio station, Radio Campus Rennes, which has had its own building (the EREVE) since 2005. Notable alumni include Louis Le Pensec, once Minister of Agriculture and a member of French parliament, Marylise Lebranchu, Minister of Justice and Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister of Defense. After leaving Prague in 1975, the writer Milan Kundera settled in Rennes and became a professor at UR2.

Work that matters The School of Civil Engineering and Construction is seeking a highly motivated ARC Grant-Funded Researcher to contribute to an industry-linked project developing low-carbon concrete using calcined halloysite, recycled plastic fibres and AI-assisted optimisation. The role will focus on translating polymer and fibre production knowledge into practical concrete technologies, supporting Australia’s transition toward lower-carbon, circular construction materials. This position will contribute to a nationally significant research program that addresses two critical challenges: reducing the carbon footprint of concrete and repurposing plastic waste into high-value construction materials. The outcomes are expected to support new material development, prototype validation and practical uptake by industry partners. The team This role will report to A/Prof Thong Pham and sit within the School of Civil Engineering and Construction in the College of Engineering and Information Technology. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team spanning structural engineering, sustainable concrete materials, polymer/plastic fibre technology, AI-assisted optimisation and industry translation. The role will involve close engagement with university researchers, HDR students, technical staff and industry partners, including collaborators involved in recycled plastic fibre production and construction applications. The position is suited to a researcher who can work across both laboratory-based material development and industry-focused implementation. About the Role The Lead, Health Placement Operations, is responsible for driving the strategic development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the College’s placement partnership portfolio. The incumbent will lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive practice intelligence framework, incorporating data governance, reporting, analytics and dashboards to support evidence-based decision-making and drive the successful activation of the Flinders Healthcare Centre. The role will oversee the development of systems and processes that provide end-to-end visibility of placement activity, enabling effective capacity planning, utilisation monitoring, forecasting and continuous optimisation. The role is also responsible for: Driving cross-functional initiatives to improve operational efficiency, system integration and process standardisation across placement activities. Providing high-level strategic advice, analysis and reporting to senior leadership on placement partnership performance, placement trends, financial sustainability and service impact.
