The Pontifical Javeriana University is a Colombian institution and one of the oldest universities in South America, running continuously since its formation in 1623. As well as the core university in central Bogotá, there is also the Javeriana University in the southwestern city of Cali. Javeriana is one of 28 universities on the continent run by the Jesuit organisation Friends of Jesus, whose founder Francis Xavier is for whom the university is named.
There are a total of nineteen faculties of study at Javeriana, with scientific sectors such as medicine or engineering, and humanities based areas such as the faculties of architecture and theology. In 2003 Javeriana was accredited as a high quality learning institution by the Ministry of National Education, the first university in Colombia to achieve this.
At the faculty of nursing the research groups conceptualisation and practice of nursing have been formally recognised for its excellent research by innovation institute Colciencias. Students at the faculty can take either a general nursing or specialised undergraduate degree, as well as a master's in nursing care for the elderly.
The college at Javeriana offers exchange programmes with nations in North America, Europe, South America and Asia. There are also over a hundred student societies on campus and a Latin American Leadership programme. Courses at Javeriana teach in small class sizes, encouraging debate and interaction with fellow students.
Two former Colombian presidents have studied at Javeriana, and many diplomats attached to foreign embassies have also studied here. Notable alumni also include journalist María Cristina Caballero and businessman Luis Fernando Correa.

About Us The Rosenblatt lab studies how epithelia maintain a functional barrier and proper cell numbers, despite turning over at high rates by cell death and cell division. We found mechanics control both opposing processes: when cells are too sparse, stretch activates cell division and when too many, crowding activates cell death by ‘epithelial cell extrusion’. While we first discovered extrusion as a process that eliminates dying cells without creating any gaps within the epithelium, we later discovered that most epithelial cells die as a result of live cell extrusion. Due to the significant role extrusion plays in epithelial cell death, a variety of diseases, ranging from bacterial and viral pathogenesis, asthma, and cancer, can result when it is misregulated. Inflammation and infection can result from excess extrusion whereas aberrant basal cell extrusion (back into the tissue epithelia encase) can drive cell invasion and de-differentiation in a class of aggressive tumours. We are currently using organoids and mouse lung slices to investigate the fate of cells that invade by basal extrusion and the signalling that drives this. The Rosenblatt lab is within the Randall Centre for Cell & Molecular Biophysics which is situated within the School of Basic & Biomedical Sciences (BMBS) and is part of the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. It is involved in a wide range of fundamental research projects at the interface between biology, biomedicine, chemistry and physics. About The Role The research associate will be selected to investigate how metabolism and mitochondrial membrane potential impacts epithelial cell extrusion of normal and transformed cells. This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31st January 2027 with a start date no sooner than 1st February 2026. The role is based onsite. Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. Interview Date: in the week commencing 26 January 2026 Project summary An exciting opportunity is available to join the laboratories of Dr Salah Mansour and Dr Ali Roghanian at the University of Southampton. We are seeking a collaborative and motivated postdoctoral scientist to work on our Blood Cancer UK-funded programme developing next-generation, off-the-shelf immunotherapies for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). This three-year project will harness cytotoxic invariant Natural Killer T (iNKT) cells for precision targeting of AML, an aggressive leukaemia with poor survival outcomes. Building on strong preliminary data, it combines mechanistic and translational immunology with bespoke in vivo models to define and exploit therapeutically relevant subsets. The Research Fellow will lead studies on cytotoxic T cell mechanisms, oversee preclinical validation, and advance CAR-iNKT platforms optimised for AML immunotherapy. The role bridges basic and translational research and suits a creative scientist with interests in tumour immunology, T cell engineering, and immunotherapy. You will join a multidisciplinary team spanning immunology, and bioinformatics, with access to advanced flow cytometry, 10X Genomics, in vivo imaging platforms. Key responsibilities To work within the Mansour and Roghanian labs, and with collaborators at Southampton and beyond. To design, conduct, and analyse in vitro and in vivo immunology experiments. To lead the optimisation and functional assessment of human T cells and CAR T cells. To liaise and coordinate between project collaborators and core facilities. To record analyses accurately and present results at group meetings, national, and international conferences. To contribute to dissemination of findings through publications and grant applications. To supervise and support junior researchers and students. Any other duties appropriate to the scope and grade of the post. Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to lead their own projects, collaborate on others, and guide PhD and Master’s students.
