The Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (or the Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal) was established in 1979 and started teaching students in 1981.
It specialises in health and social protection, science, mathematics and computer science and social sciences, business and law. It currently comprises five higher schools: Setúbal Higher School of Technology (ESTSetúbal), School of Education (ESE), School of Business Sciences (ESCE), School of Technology of Barreiro (ESTBarreiro) and School of Health (ESS).
There is also an organisational unit, aimed at supporting students: the Social Action Services (SAS), responsible for housing, food, psychological support and sports and recreational activities.
The university has approximately 6,000 students and 650 teachers and offers more than 85 higher courses, including Professional Higher Teaching Diplomas (CTeSP), undergraduate, masters and postgraduate degrees.
It has two campuses: in the cities of Setubal and Barreiro, which are in the Greater Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
The university's aim is to stimulate professional knowledge, without neglecting the scientific and works as a safe space for the training of professional community-serving individuals. The Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal has a strong connection with the community, educational institutions, hospitals and companies in the region. Its motto is “Juntos fazemos o amanhã,” meaning together we make tomorrow.
Setubal, as a region, is known for its paper and motorcar industries, as well as its varied landscape of ocean and mountains, including a large protected area which may soon become a UNESCO Human Heritage Site. Setúbal is a coastal town known for its fishing, Serra da Arrabida National Park, Baroque-style churches and Bocage traditions.

The appointee will foster interdisciplinary collaborations, deliver research-led education, and mentor early-career researchers, ensuring King’s College London remains at the forefront of addressing contemporary healthcare challenges .The role will involve conducting and leading high-impact research aligned to the research themes of the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies (RW-ILS), while developing and maintaining an externally funded research programme. Core outputs will include: publishing high-quality research outputs in peer-reviewed journals, enhancing the Faculty’s research profile and supporting its Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission; fostering interdisciplinary collaborations within the Faculty and with external research groups, including national and international partners; providing research-led teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the MBBS, MSc, and PGCert courses, ensuring alignment with the Faculty’s education strategy; supervising and mentoring PhD students and early-career researchers, promoting a culture of innovation, excellence, and academic development; contributing to the design and delivery of teaching modules; actively engaging in academic administration and committee work as required, contributing to the Faculty’s strategic and operational goals. Description The Research Center SHORES seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral Associate to work in the field of geotechnical engineering. Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field, and should demonstrate strong expertise in at least two of the following areas: Large-deformation numerical modeling (e.g., Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL), Material Point Method (MPM), or advanced Finite Element Methods). Physical modeling of tunnel excavation and ground response (e.g., geotechnical centrifuge testing, lab-scale TBM experiments). The Future Ship and System Design (FSSD) programme aims to develop strategic and innovative design capabilities for the maritime industry in Singapore and globally. Within this programme, Work Package WP2.2 focuses on research in several key areas: design Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), functional FMECA, advanced sensing techniques, sensor and operational data fusion, data analytics, and machine learning algorithms for condition monitoring, fault diagnosis, and early fault prediction in electric vessels. The primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to research in design FMECA, functional FMECA, and ship sensing, as part of the WP2.2 research team within the FSSD programme. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and research team members to manage and execute the project, ensuring that all deliverables are successfully achieved. Key responsibilities in this project include: Developing an FMECA analysis solution that integrates condition monitoring data to update actual failure modes, effects, and severity assessments. Designing and conducting experiments to simulate various ship fault conditions, implementing sensing for data collection, and developing an equipment health monitoring system. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
