The Role and Department The Institute of Computational Cosmology (ICC) within the Department of Physics manages and operates one of the UK's largest supercomputing facilities, COSMA, on behalf of DiRAC (www.dirac.ac.uk), a UK national facility. This role is primarily responsible for the operation and ongoing development of the COSMA High Performance Computing (HPC) system, supporting innovative research and development projects. In addition to providing expert user support and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to lead both software and hardware initiatives that will help shape the future of UK HPC. The position offers hands-on experience with a broad range of advanced computing technologies, including OpenStack, Ansible, containerization platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes, as well as traditional HPC server administration. Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python are essential for automating workflows and maintaining system efficiency. The successful applicant will work closely with other COSMA support staff and DiRAC technical support teams across the UK to deliver an effective and reliable service for users, including participation in both routine and emergency maintenance activities. The role involves liaising with DiRAC researchers in cosmology and other physical sciences to understand their computational codes and develop expertise in optimizing these codes for efficient execution on supercomputing facilities. There will be opportunities for training and professional development, both within Durham and in collaboration with other DiRAC partners and industry. The successful applicant will also have the chance to attend conferences and HPC events, and will participate in regular meetings with other HPC facilities across the UK. Each group leader will be entrusted with leading their research teams and fostering a collaborative and positive research culture. They are expected not only to secure funding and publish impactful scholarly articles but also to lead initiatives with impact beyond academia, influencing public health policy, enhancing health service delivery, and promoting broader societal benefits. They will be expected to contribute to the vibrant academic community within the department and more broadly across the college. A key aspect of these faculty positions involves education and mentoring, where they will shape the next generation of scientists through their contributions to both undergraduate and postgraduate education. This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. Description The Sreenivasan Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Research Assistant to conduct studies examining working memory in human subjects. Applicants with a background in programming and interest in working memory are encouraged to apply. Terms of employment include competitive salary and benefits. Research in the Sreenivasan Lab (http://nyuad.nyu.edu/sreenivasan-lab) focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms that constrain working memory ability. Our projects involve collaborations with Psychology and Biology faculty at NYUAD as well as Psychology faculty at NYU New York. The neuroimaging facilities at NYUAD include a 3T Prisma MRI, MEG, EEG, and eye tracking. Responsibilities of the position include collecting behavioral and neurophysiological data, programming experiments and analysis routines, as well as managing the day-to-day functioning of the lab. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, though a master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with MATLAB or an equivalent programming language, strong computational skills, and a background in experimental psychology or neuroscience. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience and interest in addressing questions about working memory using neuroimaging. Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
