Description The Bias, Ethics, and Privacy Cluster within the Center for Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral Associate under the supervision of Professor Hanan Salam to work on the development of frameworks, tools, and theoretical foundations for bias detection and mitigation in AI & data science, with a particular focus on applications relevant to the Arab world. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary research team working at the intersection of machine learning, algorithmic fairness, human-computer interaction, and responsible AI. The project aims to investigate how bias emerges in data pipelines and AI systems, understand the design and development decisions that propagate social biases, and develop theoretical and algorithmic approaches to mitigate them. Key responsibilities include developing bias detection tools, building fairness-aware algorithms, and contributing to practical guidelines and theoretical frameworks that address systemic bias in data-driven systems. This position offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant research environment with faculty and collaborators across computer science, data science, design, and ethics, and to contribute to high-impact research that shapes the development of equitable and inclusive AI technologies in the Arab region. Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, AI, HCI, or a closely related field, and a strong track record of research in areas such as algorithmic fairness, bias in machine learning, ethics in AI, or sociotechnical systems. Strong programming and data analysis skills are essential. Preferred qualifications include experience working with interdisciplinary research. We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician to join a team with an international reputation for producing high-quality research outcomes in microbial genomics, systems biology, and RNA-based technologies. The scope of this project is broad and involves building, integrating, and interrogating large-scale biological datasets using computational and statistical approaches. The successful candidate will contribute to projects spanning comparative genomics, proteomics, and the development of analytical pipelines for translational applications in infectious diseases and biotechnology, including the identification of vaccine targets and the computational design of RNA-based vaccine molecules.
