Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, founded in 1959, was named after the 19th century Slovak historian, philologist, and poet, Pavel Jozef Safarik. It is the second oldest, traditional university in Slovakia.

There are five faculties that students at the university can choose to study in, namely arts, medicine, law, public administration, and science. Classes are taught in both Slovak and English. The university also boasts an Institution of Physical Education and Sport, as well as a botanical garden and a library with excellent resources.

The university’s Technology and Innovation Park is the home of high-quality scientific and technological research. The Park’s main focus is in the fields of biomedicine, biotechnology, and information technologies. It is committed to the growth of the national economy and employment increase by providing industries with the results of its research.

As part of the Erasmus+ programme, the university offers its students the opportunity to study abroad for a semester or an entire academic year. The university also welcomes exchange students from a range of international universities. With worldwide partnerships, the university encourages its students to get involved in its study abroad programme in order to benefit from the cultural and intellectual exchange that occurs.

The university’s campus is located in Košice, eastern Slovakia’s largest city. Košice has a long and complex history, and today is home to the country’s greatest concentration of historic monuments. Geographically, the city is located near to the borders of Hungary, Ukraine, and Poland, ideal for students looking to explore Central Europe.
