Description The Laboratory of Applied Nonlinear Dynamics (L.A.N.D.) within the Division of Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position, with a start date of November 2026. The successful candidate will have prior research experience, both computational and experimental, in the broad field of nonlinear mechanics. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in machine learning, wave propagation, metamaterials, and/or fluid–structure interactions. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with no more than five years post receipt of the PhD. Strong English communication skills, the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and demonstrated scientific creativity are essential. The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting computational and experimental research in one or more of the aforementioned areas, preparing manuscripts for publication in academic journals and conferences, assisting in the development of research proposals for funding agencies, presenting research findings to both academic and sponsor audiences, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. Description The Smart Materials Lab (Panče Naumov Group) at the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a highly motivated associate research scientist candidate in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for materials science, with an emphasis on structure-property-relationships, materials optimization, materials under extreme conditions, and generative AI. Candidates must possess substantial experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, specifically in AI-driven materials discovery, machine learning applications for materials, or generative AI related to materials. The successful candidate will independently lead a project focused on developing generative AI models to establish structure-property relationships for materials discovery. This individual will be expected to collaborate closely with the project team and coordinate efforts with experimentalists from the Smart Materials Lab (SML) and the Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM) at NYUAD. The results of this work are anticipated to be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at prominent conferences. We offer unique opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations, organization of scientific workshops, and attendance at conferences. Key qualifications include a PhD with at least 3 years in a relevant field, expertise in AI/ML (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Python), interest in materials applications, and a strong publication record. The position is for two years, with the possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. The successful candidate is also expected to play an active role in other projects and activities within the Smart Materials Lab and assist in supervising undergraduate or PhD students. Effective management of a diverse range of communal living cases. Ensuring that student case management is effective in supporting student progress, throughout the student journey.  Contribute to the development of excellent strategic and operational policies and procedures, which assure outstanding student support, through comprehensive, co-ordinated, and exemplary customer-focused services. Provide other general assistance to the staff of the Events and Communities team in support of their activities as required.
