Oregon State University (OSU) is a public research institution in the northwest United States, with its roots in agricultural education.
It began as Corvallis Academy in 1856 and was founded as a co-educational place of college-level education in 1868.
Its main 400-acre campus in the college town Corvallis, nestled in Willamette Valley, is within easy reach of Portland, the Pacific Coast, ski resorts and hiking trails in the Cascades mountains, along with four seasons of impressive scenery.
OSU takes advantage of the dramatically varied terrains surrounding it, offering degree programs in conservation biology, agricultural sciences, nuclear engineering, forestry, fisheries and wildlife management, community health, pharmacy, zoology and marine studies.
There are over 200 undergraduate and over 80 graduate programmes in all, including over 30 online degrees.
OSU has 12 colleges, 15 agricultural experiment stations, 35 county extension offices, the Marine Sciences centre in Newport and OSU-Cascades, located in the city of Bend.
The student population is 83% undergraduates, 15% graduates and 2% professionals; around 60% of students are Oregon residents.
The university ranks very highly for renewable energy use, and 22 exercise bikes in Dixon Recreation Center are connected to the grid to help power the university.
With a recent renovation of the sports facilities the university gained a brand new synthetic turf, outdoor basketball courts and a tennis complex. There is also an Olympic size pool and a couple of volleyball courts.
Its Pride Center provides support services for LGBTQ students, and OSU is ranked in the top 20 LGBT-friendly campuses in the US, according to Campus Pride’s LGBT Friendly Campus Climate Index.
Its alumni include two astronauts, two Pulitzer prize winners, a Nobel Laureate, the first American woman to climb Mount Everest, and the inventor of the computer mouse.
Benny Beaver is its official mascot, first seen in 1942, and can be seen around campus sporting Oregon State University’s signature orange and black colours.

Centre for Uses of Literature invites candidates for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026 If you are an early career researcher in literary studies focusing on its social and health dimensions with strong academic potential, you are invited to apply for this support programme to develop your proposal in close collaboration with a senior researcher from the Centre who will act as supervisor in your project. About the Centre The Centre for Uses of Literature employs theoretical, hermeneutical and empirical methods to study the social and health dimensions and uses of Nordic and Anglophone literature. The Centre aspires to create synergy between hermeneutically and aesthetically oriented literary scholarship and empirically oriented scholarship. ‘Uses’ implies an orientation towards production, publication, circulation, adaptation, mediatization and reception of literature. We are interested in postcriticism, surface and midlevel reading, studies in (re)medialisation, and utilizing methods from social and health science such as interviews, observations, surveys and statistics. About the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships The MSCA-PF is one of the most prestigious schemes of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme. It aims at enhancing the potential and career development of researchers in Europe through funding of excellent and ambitious projects, international mobility and advanced training. The grants cover the fellow’s salary, a mobility allowance, research costs and overhead for the host institution. There are two types of postdoctoral grants: European Postdoctoral Fellowships for researchers of any nationality, coming from any country in the world, applying with University of Southern Denmark as host institution. Secondments in other research or industrial organisations are possible. The standard duration is 12 to 24 months. Global Postdoctoral Fellowships for European nationals or long-term residents applying with University of Southern Denmark as host institution, but with an outgoing phase of minimum 12 and maximum 24 months at an institution outside EU Member States and Horizon Europe Associated Countries, and a mandatory 12-month return phase to the University of Southern Denmark. Eligibility criteria The applicant must have successfully defended their doctoral thesis before the MSCA call deadline 9 September 2026. Maximum 8 years (full-time equivalent) experience in research after PhD award. Years of experience outside research and career breaks will not count towards the above maximum, nor will years of experience in research in third countries, for nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate to Europe. Description Academic Advisors offer and support a wide range of services and programs designed to meet the needs of NYUAD’s globally represented student body. Academic Advisors exemplify NYUAD principles of creating a student-centered atmosphere by providing exceptional advising for all new and continuing students. Advisors serve as a source of information about registration, degree requirements, major selection, and all other academic policies and processes. Advisors meet individually or in groups with students several times each semester to discuss academic planning. They orient new students to the rich ecosystem of academic support available across campus and serve as liaisons with other offices providing student support services (Registrar, Divisions, Global Education, Student Persistence and Well-being, Academic Enrichment Program, and the Writing Center), to which they refer students when appropriate. Advisors are expected to help orient faculty and major mentors, support the peer tutoring program, and implement NYU’s advising platform, NYU Connect. Additional responsibilities will include conducting advising workshops and webinars for incoming and current students. Advising and Academic Resource Center Responsibilities: The advisor offers a wide range of services and programs designed to meet the needs of a globally represented student body. They offer drop in hours, 1:1 appointments, advise via email and conduct workshops. The advisor is also responsible for responding to email alias inquiries in a timely way. They conduct outreach activities to engage students at risk of not progressing in their degree. The advisor assists students in planning their academic programs, choosing a major, seeking tutorial assistance, and navigating registration. They will help students define academic goals, evaluate progress toward goals, understand curricular requirements and navigate course selection. The advisor serves as a liaison with other offices and can make referrals when appropriate. Administrative Duties: Advisors are responsible for maintaining student profiles and records in NYU Connect advising platform; documenting all pertinent student information; facilitating forms and approvals for various academic processes; track retention, conduct degree audits, and maintain advising statistics. Advisors will be responsible for developing and conducting workshops.
